Well, if you have read my Music In General Opinion, then you will know, that although i am not a pop music lover, i have nothing against any musician...including pop stars. And Will young is as much a star as you are likely to find anywhere in the industry. Although, he has gotten there (along with 2 or 3 other pop idol contestants) by a different route.....well not all THAT different...excpet his path to stardom was shown live on prime-time Tv, on saturday evenings.
That of course, doesn't mean he is any different to any other solo artist / band....he obviously has skill....otherwise he wouldn't have won Pop Idol!!! Mr Smiles, must have beaten....well thousands, upon thousands, literally to get to the top, and get a record deal. And he has an amazing voice.....
Winning with an astonishing 4.6 million votes, The boy born William Young, is probably going to go further then any other musical acts around at the moment. is it because he was watched by Millions on their tv sets, so they know all about him already....? Does that give him the advantage over everyone else at the moment? maybe....maybe not......i mean, all the others HAVE probably been around wuite a while, so they already have the core fans...but then again so does Will!!!
So what does everyone think about Will winning a record contract on tv? Is it right? should executives try to make the next big thing, by screening him/her/them all over tv? well i persoanlly don't mind or care. Once again, i say that whoever wins (Will in this case) must have some talent to beat the rest.....and Will certainly does!! so really it doesn't make muchdifference. Will IS good.....and most pop bands are made up by auditions right? (Well actually i am not to well versed on the subject so....) And Pop Idol was really just one big audition so it makes no difference.
So really Will Young deserves to be exactly where he is today.....he has a great voice, a great sense of humour...
.and maybe, just MAYBE, i will buy his new single....just to see what i think of him on a deeper level......and all of this coming from someone like me!!!!

- 24/02/02 Another well thought out and objective op. I don't mind these sort of programme, they can be a laugh. The only thing that peed me off a bit was the fact that we're suppossed to vote for 1 pop idol, yet at the end of the show Simon said he'll sign Gareth too. So why did we all vote like crazy to vote for the 1 pop idol??
Still that's just me being cynical. ITV and Will are the real winners here. And i'm glad he one, as hopefully he'll be a bit different from the nowm as he has a great voice.
Just don't give him too many soppy Westlife songs. :D |
