Come on guys, Gareth lost because the judges and production team who have a vested interest in him couldn't afford the young kid messing up with his cute stutter.His ?spastication? as Ali G- put it was never going to aid him in a commercial venture like this.
From what I can make out, Simon Cowell and the girl judge had a significant stake in him 'before' the final ten began dumping which begs the question weather he was aided like he was on finals night to make the final two over the contest.

They managed to iliminate big Rick pretty promptly after the cunning public voted him in with the seemingly democratic phone vote. The ones that had invested in the eventual realized that he would be a disaster if he won and they needed to find away to bump the poor kid out.
Although to Rick's credit he knew his weight would help his cause and played on that. The soar voice tipping of the big blubber to be replaced by the nauseating Darius was a better perfect substitution that even Solskjar in the Champions League final.

Gareth presented the same problem, as the stutter would soon lose its cuteness and be very tiring on three minute TV and radio promotions. BT admitted that they rigged the phone vote on LWTs orders so Gareth had only one third as much capacity as the classier Will.
Even with that cunning block he still nearly beat the gaylord so it shows just how right the bookies were.
I don't think Garth was faking the vulnerable voice handicap but im sure like Rick that he was aware that it would help his cause.

This is where this type of TV becomes vulgar as the production companies like this kind of angle to promote. There was a female Rick in Popstars who got much further than she should just to keep the chubby punters tuning in and hopeful. But in reality theres no way on earth that obese unattractive people are going to make a boy/girl band.
Rick?s stringing a long to pull in the viewers with only the gullible not knowin
g he was going to be chucked is not pleasant viewing.

Gareth lost the critical gay vote on the night as Will was clearly off that persuasion. His middle class background two picked up the student vote from the 'new' universities who really should be voting for something more important.
The critical young teen girls split their vote for Gareths huggable personality and Wills stronger stage style and voice. Good lucks usually decide these things any way and the predominately female show following kicked the girls out ages ago.

Popstars and Pop Idol is the McDonalds of TV where the media get you to vote for people with talent but tied into contracts that allow the music biz to f**k us over. While constructed artists like this block the charts like pensioners in the National Health real talent can not get through.
If you guys keep picking up the phone and voting for this crap then music will become a commercial pit as talent and originality is buried by bland gay/teen pop.

That homosexual and teen market is the bulk buyer of pop and demand effeminate camp acts like Kyle and im sure Will Young's first album. But the short shelf life of these clones? means the music biz has just to freshen up the same product instead of digging up and culturing talent.
In the seventies and eighties pop was tongue n cheek and symbiotic with real talent to allow the music biz to flourish.
Now it seems to be a constant flow of constructed MTV friendly pretty boys and girl with synthesized voices.


Im sure the deliberately caustic Simon Cowell (now we know why) had a bit of a shine for the young Will and no doubt the boy will need to return the favor some day. Im not hoping this is the end of this formula as there are plenty of lemmings out there who enjoy it.
But hopefully the more democratic MP3 internet formula will allow talent to bypass the money men and women to get the music aired and the consumer a better choice.
