I have loved Will Young since his rendition of The Doors 'Light My Fire' on Pop Idol! My little boy would go to sleep to 'Evergreen' so it was a perfect excuse to have him playing all the time!. I love his free style and his voice just makes me swoon! At Christmas, when I was watching Will on World Idol, I actually had to put down my drink, whilst watching him! Yep, I ve got it bad!!!

I asked my brother for 'Fridays Child' specifically for Christmas. You know what brothers are like! I

didnt want to end up with something I hated!! I didnt love it straight away! I found it quite hard to get into. Its very orchestral so quite heavy if you are not used to it. Youget the chance to chill or really get down to the groove!

I do not have Wills first album as I wasnt too keen on his early released stuff! I liked Evergreen and Anything is Possible! but they were on the original single! He was a bit manipulated, I think for his first album and he sang stuff he shouldnt have! (in my opinion!)

Will really caught my attention again towards the end of 2003, with 'Leave Right Now!' On first seeing the video for it, I thought 'Oh God, Will Young has got a really bulbous nose!' Nice of me wasnt it! But then I realised I had my telly in a strange position!?!

On Wills website (the official one) you can see the adverts as broadcasted on tv! I hadnt seem them until I saw the website. I had only seen the Woolworths one! The website also gives a link to get extra online content from your CD. (www.wyoung.co.uk/fridayschild) It does say that need a copy of the CD to access. You just enter your personal details and it tells you to insert your copy of the CD into the drive. The pc may update a couple of files needed to run the applet but then you are taken on to an exclusive vaulted web area. It would have been fab but the competition had ended! There is a Making of Leave Right Now! and a mini movie from his
Album Launch back in November 2003. So it is stuff worth seeing! Shame about the compettion because I would have liked the chance to win a signed polaroid! Nevermind!

The CD cover is a picture of Will, all happy and jolly, parading about, I think, Hadrians Wall, but dont quote me on that! Let me know if I m wrong and where he really is!! Wearing his trademark scruffy blue jeans accompanied with dark blue T shirt and Black jacket. Well, i have to say he looks gorgeous, because he usually does! (I say usually, not always!!) The background is of a lovely landscape, blue sky, green fields and a tree! Yes, a tree! The tree becomes quite a feature of his album illustration!

Friday's Child and Will Young, in hand script, are written in white across the blue sky. The CD itself, is white, with the title and artist written in a beautiful powder blue! Im hoping tomatch it, so I can paint my bathroom the same colour!! The tree simply illustrates the base of the CD. Simple but very effective! Beautiful!

On opening the CD booklet, to my delight I find it has the words to all the songs! Wahey!!

The first page is a very solemn looking Will on a deserted beach, black and white. He thanks all of his family, friends and colleagues for their help and support throughout the making of the album! Bless him!

The next two page spread is illustrated by the green and blue landscape again and the tree! The picture shows Will running along the wall to the tree

Song 1 - Love the One You're With! -

Originally a hit for Luther Vandross in 1995, this song is a perfect start to the album! With all his little trills, mmm's and yeh, yeh, yeh's, Will truly makes it his own! It is sensational and my second favourite song on the album! A gospel song being backed by e ten piece gospel choir, in its own right but now, its got pezazz!!

Song 2 - Your Game -

Begins with a few jazzy riffs, woo, yeh's! A smoot
h but funky beat to this song! This song is also backed by a ten piece gospel choir. Co written by Will Young

Song 3 - Stronger -

Slow and swoony number. I do like this one! Very deep and emotional lyrics! The lack of rhyming and structure within the verses gives this song the style it has.

Song 4 - Leave Right Now!

My ultimate fave!!! So such feeling! The little rattle of drums being played with brushes is gentle and soothing. You can actually feel the torment he is feeling about his ex turning up and upsetting him again. If you watch alongside the video, the effect is quite astounding!

The next double page spread we are faced with the sandy beach with a beaming WIll looking up at us! Lovely!

Song 5 - Love is a matter of distance

Wills is very feminine at the begginning of this song. Again the musical accompaniment is soft and gentle with drums, guitars. Not the best lyrics in the world, dont always make sense in my view but still very beautiful.

Song 6 - Dance the Night Away

Tambourines open this number then we are moved along by a bit of funky bass. Not one of my faves but okay! The chorus does get down to it but, to me, its just a feeble attempt at disco!! Sorry!! Co written by WIll Young

Song 7 - Very Kind

Tambourines, piano, bass and electro guitar. Quite nifty start. Another song Im not keen on but it s okay. Very high pitched for Will. The chorus isnt too bad but like I said Im not keen. As the song moves along a bit, it does pick up a tiny bit of tempo and Wills voice harshens a little. Co written by Will Young.

Again the beach dominates the picture on this double page spread. Will is coyly looking at his feet with his hand inhis pockets. A classic shot!

Song 8 - Free

Violins, I think open this song then moves to drums, guitars and bass. A soul sounding number. The chorus is indeed quite funky with the bass coming through. It is
quite a long song compared to the others. That high pitched Will haunts us again inbetween his funky bits! ( Yes I admit, I dont anything about music terms etc! Sorry!) Co written by Will Young

Song 9 - Going my Way

A bit of trumpet this time for originality! This song picks up tempo from the start. Smooth and flowing , accompanied by an acoustic guitar I think. As the song develops, drums and backing vocals come in. Im not sure if the trumpet is muted. Wills voice is how I like it. Just normal, no trills or graduations! Co written by Will Young

Song 10 - Out of My Mind

Another disco track. The true style of WIll gleams through! Full orchestral backing! Fantastic! Trumpets galour! Co Written by Will Young

Song 11 - Friday's Child

The title track. This song has accompaniments from a harmonica, a guitar, and a flute! Smooth, slow. That funky bass backing is there but the song never catches my attention really until one line in the chorus, which is the title line! The words seem to complicate the song! Too much to listen to! Does that sound stupid or what!!

There are no bonus tracks unfortunately! Always nice to get a treat!

The last double page is of the beach at sunset. Will standing on the shore line at dusk. Beautiful.

The back of the booklet shows Will, again on the beach, in a hideous herringbone coat! Euch!! Black and White, simple but great!

The picture which the CD sits on is again of Will in the herringbone coat! Sultry look! He doesnt need to smile to get me going!!

The back of the CD case shows the bright cheery blue and green landscape again!

A lovely album if you like the orchestral style backing rather than the techno stuff! I find it lovely to listen to. Available in all good record stores for anything from £8.99 to £15.00. In Woolworths, it was available on the 'Buy one Get one Half Price' offer.

Thanks for reading
