Ive been a slimmer on and off for years now. Im still overweight, but I joined Purely Slimming, a new slimming club that started in April 2002. This has been the most refreshing club Ive ever been to. All the ladies who take the class, are still overweight and most of them are on the diet as well. This makes people within the class feel a lot more at ease. The plan is very simple with really normal foods - like today I had a 2 crumpets and marge for brekkie; smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel for lunch and Im having beef stroganoff tonight. As a former slimming instructor for Slimming World and the proprietor of my own slimming clubs with medically approved diets once upon a time, and now weighing more than thirteen stone, I do question just who the slimming clubs are for. I was at the library last week and five women passed me to go up the stairs to a slimming club...they all looked as if they needed drips! Without exception, each looked anorexic and could not have weighed more than 35 stone collectively. I learned a long time ago that women who go to slimming clubs and I include myself, are generally quite sad people. There are the exceptions, I will admit, those who genuinely need advice and ...

It wasn't that much weight, just the few pounds that creep up on you when you can't be quite as physically active as you once were plus a few more from the self-indulgent chocolate biscuits that all-too-readily become a way of life. My friend and I walk our dogs together every morning. We stroll round, the dogs race around and it averages out at a walk, but the walk seemed to be getting slower and I was conscious of being a bit breathless on occasions.
