Cardiff has two main department stores in Cardiff- Howells and Debenhams. Cardiff is a relatively large town but I think two big stores gives you everything you need. There used to be a big David Morgan too but that has closed down.

Howells is a big department store (part of House of Frasier) and I guess you might say it is the most upmarket of the two. It has a large variety of clothes, purfumes and make-up, food, and house hold items. Everything in there is a brand name and all the mini shops it features are quite expensive ones such as Coast and Calvin Klein. There are some cheaper departments but generally they are top end highstreet stores.

I personally don't like Howells that much. There are security guards everywhere and it feels a little unfriendly. I'd imagine you get a lot of shoplifting there but there is no need to make people feel uncomfortable.

Debenhams is much nicer in terms of feeling comfortable shopping and houses high end brands and lower end brands.

A new shopping centre is opening in Cardiff soon so no doubt another department store will shot up.
