I stayed in the Ranweli resort in January 2003 for two fabulous weeks and have just returned to the grey skies of London. Ranweli Holiday Village is one of the most beautiful, tranquil and relaxing places I have ever stayed in (and I have travelled a lot). It is located approximately 45 minutes from Colombo Airport and is on a peninsula with the Indian Ocean one side and a lagoon on the other side. I stayed at the Ranweli Village resort in March 2001, and I was very impressed. In the travel brochures it was portrayed as an "average" resort ... but how wrong they were!! It is located about 45 min north of Colombo, and is isolated between the sea and a lagoon. It is known as an "eco-friendly resort", which was not even mentioned in the brochure - and by this it means that everything is recycled, food is fresh from their own gardens, and the surroundings are amazing as it is in the centre of a nature reserve.
