Went last night for my birthday and had a brilliant time. We are locals and go to the Seven Stars fairly regularly and love the relaxing atmosphere and decor. Like any place it has had it's ups and downs but overall we have always been very impressed (with the food) and the last few suppers we have had there have been excellent. Last night the service was a little slow as a result of only having 2 staff split between bar and restaurant so I ( ex-waitress - very hard to please!) started to twitch a little but the food was fabulous and more than made up for any holes in the service. The service itself also improved a great deal as the evening went on after a 20 minute period of invisibility at the start waiting for the menu etc. I had a melt in the mouth starter of potted shrimp and trout and my husband's chili squid starter was also fantastic and it's different flavours perfectly balanced. We then both had perfectly cooked rare rib eye steaks which were tender and delicious (much better than any steak I have had in the same price bracket recently and we eat steak A LOT!!)complimented by possibly the best chips in the world and the peppercorn sauce was sublime andnot at all over-powering. The 1st 2 courses were so good that even though we weren't that hungry we felt we would miss out unless we ordered puddings and again we were not disappointed - one chocolate nemesis (very aptly named!) and apple pie and custard later we waddled off home very full, my diet in tatters, but very content! I really can't understand why this pub isn't busier? We will definitely be going back and suggest you try it as well. Perhaps if more people go they will be able to increase the numbers/quality/training of serving staff since this seems to be it's only downside.
