Advantages: The picture quality is better than analogue.
Disadvantages: You can ONLY see one channel at a time (and it’s so darn expensive).
What point is there to digital when it actually means a limited choice? Yes, you do have more channels but so what? Many good programmes are shown at the same time as each other which means that there certainly will be a few fights (well, in my household at least....) to watch a certain programme at a certain time. Until Sky can ‘fix’ this problem, it will be hindered in it’s progress. The slightest hint of a gentle breeze or rain means immediate disrupted viewing (and not a darn thing can be done about it). Many of the channels are simply unwatchable down to their sheer awfulness (hello Bravo....) but there are exceptions (hello, Discovery.....). The only channels that are ‘free’ are the rolling news channels (CNN, Sky News, BBC News 24, ITN, CNBC, Bloomberg....), the radio channels (listen to radio through your TV!?) and BBC(s) One and Two, and Channel(s) 4 and 5 (ITV sticking with their ON-digital service....). Hopefully, the government will put off getting rid of ‘analogue’ for a long, long time. *UPDATE* To my dismay, I have discovered that CNBC and Bloomberg are both unavailable without the card. Which brings the only question but why? As is the omission of TalkSport on the range of radio channels. What's that about? And wouldn't it be benefitted because it's on crackly medium wave!?
