Just looking at these adverts you can tell they're by the same guy as did Wallace and Gromit, which netted him a number of oscars over the years! Of course, he was also quite involved in a little film called Chicken Run this year, which did quite well really! The adverts themselves feature the trademark plasticene models of Park's later works, but given superb mannerisms, and brilliant voice overs from a wide range of accents, all extolling the virtues of various parts of the elevtricity board (as it was then) servies, be that central heating or electric cookers, they all put it acrodd perfectly.. there was even a large range of merchandise spun off, ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Ad that launched a thousand spin-offs... (82 words)

Okay, so maybe not quite that many spin-offs but certainly this was the beginning of an era. The adverts were/are cute, amusing in a warm, indulgent familial way. These are ads that will feature strongly in nostalgic flashbacks in years to come. The characters have great appeal and the voices play a great part in the overall cuteness of the finished product. Best of all, I can even remember what it advertised. Erm... it was gas central heating wasn't it? ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Electricity Board - Creature Comforts: Crackin' Adverts! (190 words)

These television adverts were first aired quite a few years ago now, but I still remember them as they were quite unique in their nature. Anyone who has since seen any of Aardman Animation's productions (Wallace & Grommit, Chicken Run) will recognise the style to be very similar to these adverts. The idea was very simple: a quick series of interviews with customers of the Electricity Board about their likes and dislikes of the service. The twist was that these 'customers' were animated animals. One of the reasons everyone liked these adverts so much was the humour and originality created by Nick Park. Although the interviews were treated quite ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Creative Classics (155 words)

The GENUIS that is Nick Park and his Ardman animations is only being fully realised with the highly successful, Chiken Run after the classics that were Wallace and Gromit. But here we have some of the funniest things seen on television. The Creature Comfort adverts were shown in the earlier nineties to advertise the Electricty Board, by showing what services are provided by electricity. This was cleverly done by showing animals from pigs to parrots discussing how they benfited from the services, the animals were made out of plasticine, allowing to show the expressions of the animals. The adverts were really funny, with a family of pigs ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Electricity Board - Creature Comforts: A sparkling effort! (159 words)
by - written on 27/08/00 (Very useful, 90 readings)
Rating:

This is the product that launched Nick Park and the rest of the enormously talented people who work at Aardman Animation into the public eye. A simple idea spawned from the Oscar winning animated short of the same name, this continues the theme of a set of ‘vox pops’ that are voiced by genuine people but put into an animation of a specially created environment....that of animals in a zoo, as we see orang-utans, penguins, polar bears and the like get ‘interviewed’ about what they would like improving about the Electricity Board. The fact that it is informative but funny sets it apart from the adverts of yesteryear and even today as ...  Read the complete review
