A good alternative to BSkyB (NTL)

Advantages: Easy bill structure, good channels, FrontRow (pay per view movies)

Disadvantages: Not everywhere

We used to live in Bedfordshire and when we arrived the house we moved into had the cable line already there, and just rang NTL, and within a very short space of time, we had our requested selection of channels and telephone line up and running.

The charges are very competative - compared to BT. The call charges are on a very simple structure - 3p daytime/2p evenings/1p weekends no matter where in the UK you are calling. Simple, effective, clear and concise. The line rental is the same as BT, and for that you also get a good selection of extra TV channels, including Eurosport (see my seperate Dooyoo review of this also), SkyOne, BBC News 24 and others. You can pay extra for other channels too, and they also feature a good pay-per-view movie service, which is also simple to use, and has many good films (again see my Dooyoo opinion on FrontRow, too).

Just as we were about to leave the area for deepest darkest Dorset, they were about to introduce cable modems, and how we wanted that nice 'fat pipe' for our Internet connection, but it wasnt to be, as where we went to didnt have cable. D'oh!

But not to worry, NTL didnt leave us out in the cold! We have thier telephone service, provided via a neat little box that cost us £10 (a one off charge), and also unlimited, unmetered 0800 internet access - very useful. So now we pay BT for line rental, and all our calls go through NTL - cheaper, and still with that great pricing structure.
