Advantages: Educational, Brilliant channels, Games via the remote control!!!!!!
Disadvantages: None major ones - see op.
If you're (or your family) are having the "whether to get Sky Digital or OnDigtial" argument...then I know exactly how you feel!
Both my mum and dad wanted On Digital, but I wanted Sky Digital....so it was the great teenage daugther against mum and dad syndrome.
Although as is often the case I won!!!
Hehe! <in evil laugh>!
Sky Digital suits all TV addicts and non-addicts alike. Its got about 999 channels! (so no matter what you're into there will be something of interest!) Admitted a lot of the channels are a load of rubbish...but the good far outway the bad.
I basically only watch the Documentary channels. So Sky Digital really suits me.
~ Discovery Channel ~
(basically just documentaries...infact you can see my opinion about this channel!)
~ Discovery + 1hr ~
this is generally a waste of a channel you think to yourself...but then you forget to watch a REALLY good programme...and just catch it the hour later - so you then change your mind about the channel!
~ National Geographic ~
See my opinion about this channel too. Basically documentaries about anything and everything!
~ Animal Planet ~
packed full of programmes, like tradtional documentaries with David Attenborough and also programmes like Animal hospital - just in the US. Like one called "Animal Doctors"...its basically like ER in comparison to Casualty...but in the form of Animal Hospital. Its a fast pace, up-to-date animal hospital. Brilliant.
~ Einstein.tv ~
This is a new channel devoted to life sciences, space, earth sciences and technology. Like every day 6-7 is space. Its brilliant...currently my favourite channel of them all! (Only disadvantage being that they repeat a lot, ive seen a programme about mining on Mars or comets about 9 times now!)...still great though!
The channels simply go on and on and on...whether you're into quantu
m physics or Jerry Springer. You are sure to find something of interest on ONE of the channels. If you dont then you must be REALLY picky!
Another great thing about Sky Digital is the "Open" facility. On Open you can shop,
e-mail, order pizza's, search jobs in your area, look up local restaraunts and best of all play games!! (along with others!). The games are great, theres about 10 of them you can play with with the remote control!
I cant comment about the email facility - as Ive not used it seen as we have the WWW on the PC! You can browse shops like WHSmiths, Gadget Shop, Woolworths, Dixons...etc and see all thier latest offers and things.
So far there is only 3 disadvantages about Sky Digital:
* Parents become addicted to "Beehive Bedlam" game (and when theres a good programme on BBC Knowlege or Einstein.tv it gets very annoying!)....they're ALWAYS playing on it!!*
* Can become a bad situation, when you get watching a programme all about Einstiens Special Theory of Relativity, and you have LOADS of homework to be doing!*
* Sometimes there are technical hitches. For example occasionally it will just freeze up on you for no reason...but you just phone Sky Digital up and its sorted pretty quick*
Definately get Sky Digital...from what ive heard about On Digital its faaar better. I mean from what you see advertised about On Digital doesnt really sell itself. For example:
Just after an episode of Coronation Street (not that I watch it...but again the parents do!) it will say "to see this episode again tune into ITV2 available for On Digital viewers"
Now to me that means ITV2 is all repeats. Same as News24...that will pretty much be repeats! It seems 50% of thier channels are just repeats of BBC and ITV channels!
For the £40 you get the digibox thing, dish and the reciever thing...so its a bargain really!
Well worth the money!
