Advantages: Good programme choice
Disadvantages: Prices are high
I must admit I would not be without my Sky Dish now. After so many years of claiming to be too poor to afford the high prices, I now spend all of my evenings stuck in front of the TV. True, Out of the 4 or so hours I spend in front of the TV at night, up to 50% of that time can be spent watching Soaps, etc on terrestrial television. But, what it fails to reveal are the amount of film choice, recording of sky programmes and the genral wide range of programming when the Terrestrial TV is C**P. Sky first launched in the late 80's with only a handful of channels. After becoming a digital service and available via cable in the 1990's it blossomed with a much wider range of channels. Today there are about 100 channels available at any time. It suits me because it helps out with my job. As a Nanny, it is sometimes hard to find something for the children to watch on Terrestrial TV. With Sky, there are about 30 childrens channels to watch so there is always something on to keep them occupied while I make their dinner. It keeps my husband quiet on a Monday evening while I watch Soaps in peace. He can retire to the bedroom to watch whichever football match is on. It motivates my husband into doing the jobs around the house when he watches DIY programmes. It keeps us both occupied when there is a film on that we want to watch. Normally these are repeated on a weekly basis so there is no excuse to miss the latest blockbuster. It also improves our terrestrial viewing channels. Our Aerial reception is quite poor but becomes crystal clear if we watch them through the Sky Digital Service. I particularly like the way the channels are grouped. from 101-299 are the general purpose stations such as Terrestrial channels, DIY programmes, holiday channels and historic programming. From 301 - 399 are the many Film choices. Depending on the package you opt for will depend how many of these you see. Fro
m 401 -439 are all of the sports channels. Again it depends on what package you have. 440-499 are the music channels. Something for everyones taste here. 501 -599 are News and factual programming. 601- 699 are the cartoons. Excellent for when I am at work. At £44 a month, it is a very expensive luxury to have but one we could not be without. There are cheaper packages that come without the movies and/or sport but it is better to have everything for when you want to watch a particular film or sport.
