Soft flex is a very easy to handle wire for jewellery making and beading projects. It is strong, unless you were making a very determined effort it would be difficult to break this wire. It is made by entwining 7 lengths of 7 very fine wires. These are covered by silver coloured nylon and the result is a fine smooth wire. When I make jewellery I want it to last well. I often use quite heavy beads. The wire is tough enough for the weight of the beads not to cause any stretching or sagging. It's breaking strain is 26 pounds so theoretically you could use it for fishing. You certainly couldn't put 26 lbs of beads on it, not unless you knew some elephants that wanted necklaces! I find that this thread is really handy because it is rigid enough to not need the hassle of using a needle. That also means that I can use a finer gauge of bead as spacers if necessary. When I'm beading I work under the maxim "Anything for an easier and less fiddly life!" so I tend to use crimping beads to finish off with and attach the clasps. The wire is sturdy enough to use crimps with and I haven't had any incidents of the wire slipping and undoing up to now. It is absolutely infuriating to hold your precious new creation up for inspection and to see it disintegrate all ove the floor! Up to now it hasn't happened! (Touch wood!) Because I use crimps I can't comment on how well or easily this wire can be knotted. It doesn't look as though it would slip. Never having been a Boy Scout I don't know enough about knotting to try it out. I bought mine in New York. (Name dropper? Moi?) it cost $3.00 for 30ft reel. Larger reels are available and of course they cost less per foot than the smaller reels. This thread is available in a number of different colours and weights. I tend to stick to the silver because it is more versatile for more projects. A 30foot reel will make about 15 to 20 single strand necklaces, depending on their length of course! Because of the way the wire is constructed it tends not to kink unless you do it deliberately. This is a great asset in beading wire. Nothing looks less professional than necklaces that won't hang well because you have accidentally kinked the wire and the bead weight is not heavy enough to pull it straight. (If you have ever done this you will know what I mean! None beaders will have to take my word for it!) It does the job well and cheaply. I recommend it.
Soft Flex beading Wire is a stainless steel, Nylon coated, 49 strand beading wire which is easy to knot and very flexible. Has been tested to hold up to 26lbs in weight so it's very strong.
