Advantages: Good range of colours and perfect for applying detail
Disadvantages: Can be more expensive than some felt tips so need to be looked after properly really
Felt tip pens can vary in quality but the Berol brand when it comes to stationery have always in my experience been a trustworthy choice. I can remember using Berol Colour Brush Pens in lessons during my time at school and more recently I every now and again use them during my working day. The ones I use are a pack of twelve stored in a plastic wallet and were originally purchased for £4.99 from a local stationery shop and looking on the internet at suppliers I see that Ryman are advertising this product for the same cost although I'm sure if you do your research you can buy them a little cheaper, for example with postage on eBay they are around the £4.50 mark.
Each pen is light and easy to grip and the colour of each one is indicated by the lid and a plastic cap at the other end. There are two shades of green, then a red, grey, purple, light and dark blue, black, pink, yellow, orange and brown. The manufacturer claims that you can leave the lid of one of these pens for two weeks and it will not dry out, I have never tested this statement and always try to replace the correct lid. I have always found it frustrating when you try and use a felt tip pen and it is dry as a bone but this has never been a problem with any of the twelve Berol offerings and I have been using them for a long time.
The ink is washable and should clean of most fabrics within reason but again I can't remember if I have ever marked my clothes with it so can't testify to this fact. Most importantly these are great pens with a good range of bold and bright colours. I work in a large format printers dealing with massive graphics and sometimes due to the size there can be imperfections, minor faults in the coating of the material or a fly has got stuck to it meaning that the ink has not covered it properly. These pens are perfect to try and repair these issues, partly down to the fact that the brush nib on the pen tapers down to a tiny point meaning you can be very detailed and precise with these felt tips. If I have a large completely red graphic with a few white spots where the ink has not coated the paper, a quick touch with the red colour brush pen will make it look like these imperfections were never there.
These pens are also brilliant for just normal colouring and arts and crafts activities, it is best though not to press too hard when using these as you can crush or damage the point on the end of the felt tip making it more difficult to achieve the detail these Berol colour brush pens are so good at.
