“ Brand: Character Options / Type: Fabric decoration kit „
Both my daughters are very arty and crafty and they also love clothes so it came as no surprise really that one of the presents my youngest daughter received for her sixth birthday was a Magic Fabric Fashion Show Set. It's a set that is suitable for six years and over and it really appealed to me because on the box it says that it requires no sewing, no glue and no heat! These are all the things that either require my help or are liable to make a mess so I knew that with the absence of these my daughters would really be able to get on and enjoy making the lovely fashion figures.
The aim is to create fashion models who will parade down the catwalk that is provided although you do have to construct it. I will describe this later. The set also contains the following:
8 magic fabric sheets containing all of the things the models might choose to wear;
a roller hand tool and rolling sheet;
character guide and
an instruction leaflet.
At first glance we did not find the instructions that easy to follow even though there were pictures as well as words. My daughters needed me to help them make sense of everything and I have to admit that I struggled. Once we had worked out what to do though, actually making the fashion models and their fashion pets was actually quite straightforward and enjoyable so I am glad that the instructions did not put them off!
There is enough material to make four fashion models and their pets. There are a host of arms, legs, tops, handbags, scarves and so on to dress all of them. All of these are printed on magic fabric sheets and are pre cut so you only need to peel them off. This is sometimes a little bit tricky and you have to give the fabric a bit of a tug but it seems to be quite resilient as it has not ripped at all. Everything is sticky on the reverse side although sometimes we peeled off an extra bit and had to remove that backing separately in order to get to the sticky bits. Also some items are quite minute and some are very tricky to remove without crumpling. On the whole though, my daughters were able to remove most bits for themselves. You can either choose how you want your models to be dressed and there can be hundreds of different combinations or you can choose to follow the character guide and copy what the characters are making.
Everything sticks together no problem and there is a roller tool that goes over them to make sure everything is really stuck together tight.
All the characters have oversized heads and these are filled with foam so that they are puffed out. This makes them look quite comical and my daughters really love the look especially as they have made them.
As I mentioned earlier there is a cardboard catwalk to fit together. There are flaps to tuck in when attaching the different books but these don't work particularly well so I have had to use sellotape to keep it all together. The girls love the catwalk though and since they have finished making all the figures they have loved making up fashion show games.
I am really pleased with this set. It was nice and easy for the girls to make and for once I am in agreement with the age guide. They also had so much fun making the little figures and as they are now enjoying playing with them there is a great deal of longevity. As the kit cost £11.99 from Toys R Us this is a good thing as we are really getting our money's worth!
