I bought these for my daughter for Christmas to go with her Crayola easel which had a blackboard on the one side.
The chalks were an add on item on Amazon and cost me only 99p for a box.
I chose the coloured ones as I thought they would be more fun than just boring white.
The chalks haven't changed since I was a child and still come in a yellow box with a slot through which you can see the colours. Inside the box there are 12 chalks in 6 colours so 2 of each colour. The colours included are; red, green, blue, yellow, purple and brown.
These chalks are recommended for ages 3+ my daughter is almost 3 and I have no problems with her using them.
The chalks are anti-dust to minimise the inhalation of dust. The chalks are also designed to be harder to snap than usual chalks and also to deliver a consistent colour throughout drawing.
On Christmas day when we opened these my daughter wasn't very interested in these. Even though the blackboard is a Crayola product these chalks barely made a mark on the board a lot of pressure needed to be applied and my daughter got a little fed up. A couple of these also rolled off the easel tray onto the kitchen floor and snapped so I can't say they are any stronger than normal chalks. They also left the easel tray looking dusty so considering these are anti dust they made a mess. The colours were also strange the red looked more like a brown and the brown was a rusty colour which hardly showed on the board.
Overall we were very disappointed with these. I had also purchased Crayola dry wipe crayons for blackboards and they were far superior to the chalks.
This is not something I would purchase again and I can only give these 1 star they aren't as good as I remembered!
For my birthday I was bought a very cute heart shaped chalk board to Han up in my kitchen. As part of the gift I also received a packet of crayola chalks to write out my memos on.
The packet of chalks costs around £2.20 and I have seen them for sale in various supermarkets and other shops. They have been around for years and as a reputable brand they can be found in most stores.
The packet of crayola chalks comes in a yellow packet that has a window so you can see the chalks in the pack.
The chalks are around 5 cm tall and you get 12 in packet with 2 of each colour. The colours are very pale but consist of blue, red, yellow, green, purple and brown.
The colours are not very bright but each one is distinctive enough when drawn on the chalk board, although yellow and green do look very similar.
The chalks are easy to use and the colour does not transfer easily on to your fingers which is good. The last thing you want is messy fingers after writing a quick memo. I have one stick of chalk that I have attached on a string next to the board. As far as the packet goes only a few sticks have snapped an on the whole appear to be good quality.
This packet of chalks will last me ages as I only use them to write notes with. The chalk is easy to wash off, you can rub it with your finger or you can use a damp cloth to clean it properly. If you are a budding artist you can blend these colours or smudge them and use them to create pictures. They do not give off too much dust which is good and on the whole the chalks are really good quality.
I would wholly recommend these chalks. I have used cheaper ones that end up all over my fingers and smudge too easily. These don't do that, making it much easier to leave my boyfriend his list of jobs on the chalk board.
If someone says the name Crayola, I think most people will recognise the brand. It is a popular manufacturer of childrens craft supplies. They sell everything craft related from colouring books, to pens and scissors. During the summer months I was thinking of things that me and my daughter could do outside in the fresh air that was relatively cheap. One of the things that popped into my head was drawing with chalks, I used to do it when I was little so thought it would be fantastic to start doing this with her.
***** The chalks *****
I purchased these Crayola anti dust chalks in the assorted colour version, they are also available in just plain white. I got mine from Amazon for around £2.50 back in June/July time. The pack contains 12 chalks, about 5cm high, made with a special anti dust formula to minimise the amount of dust made when in use. There are six different coloured chalks in the pack, with two of each colour
***** Thoughts *****
As I said earlier, I bought these chalks from Amazon, it probably wasn't best ordering them from the internet as when they arrived a few of the chalks had already broken in the packet. This wasn't a problem for me because I didn't mind using half length chalks and letting my daughter use the full length ones, but in hindsight I should of stopped being so lazy and bought them from a shop. This made me think that when using these chalks that they might snap easily if too much pressure is used, but I was wrong. None of these chalks snapped whilst in use.
We use these chalks for when the weather is nice out in the garden, they performed quite well. Not a lot of pressure was required to get the chalks to show on the concrete slabs, the only problem was, once the chalk had been applied, the colour wasn't very bright. From Crayola most people expect fantastic quality products but I don't think this matched the expectations. Of course the chalk still showed and was of an adequate level, just not as good as I thought Crayola would be.
The chalk was easy to wash off the concrete with a little water and a hard bristle broom. It didn't take much effort to erase all of our beautiful pictures (scribbles!), and after a few sweeps with the broom they had vanished.
The anti dust formula that Crayola boast about is as good as they say, the chalks didn't create any dust associated with using chalks, and I couldn't feel any dust in the air when using these. Maybe this was because we was outside when using them, I don't know.
Overall I think these chalks are great. Although the brightness of the colour when applied slightly disappointed me, the quality of these chalks are excellent. We even used to take these out with us on walks so that we could draw pictures wherever we went as I knew that with a good rain shower it should have washed the pictures away and we wasn't leaving any lasting graffiti (if you would call it that). I can't comment on how well these chalks perform on a chalkboard as we haven't got one to try it, but for outdoor use these are fab. I'll be buying these again... from a shop next time!
For my daughters third birthday she received a chalk board, to go with this she received a selection of chalks. As well as receiving the Crayola white chalks she received this pack of Crayola multi-coloured chalk that is the focus of this review.
The chalk comes packaged in a relatively simple card box which is decorated in the traditional Crayola yellow and green colours with the Crayola logo on the front. The box also has a small open at the front where you are able to see the contents.
The chalk set costs around the £1 mark on amazon, for this you get 12 coloured chalks, the main colours being; blue, red, yellow, green, purple and brown. Crayola suggests that the chalk is anti-dust. This is supposed to mean that there will be less mess involved with the overall activity. This statement is both true and false. It's true in the sense that the chalk does not flake and fall all over the ground whist colouring on the chalking board but it's false in a sense that my daughter still ends up with dust all over her.
I think, no matter what chalk it is its going to make a mess, these ones are better than many others that we have used but the chalk does still transfer to hands whilst colouring, this then means (for my daughter anyway) that there will be chalk hand prints all over her clothes and also over any other surface within the vicinity. But as I said, I think this is unavoidable with any chalk so just don't be expecting a miracle product if you buy this chalk as you will be left disappointed.
Saying all of that I do think that this is a great set of chalk for a pound, the quality is better than most others as the chalks don't snap as easy, they are a lot stronger which for my daughter is an excellent quality to have as she is not exactly delicate with her drawings. But again, it's the same principle as above really as they can and do snap it's just that they are slightly stronger.
My daughter really likes using her chalk and she enjoys the wide variety of colours that are provided. My daughter is easily able to use the chalks and it doesn't take much pressure for them to be applied to the chalking board. The colours come out looking the same as they do on the box, they are nice and bright and individual colours are easily detectable.
The chalks last for a very long time, ours don't look much shorter than they started off and my daughter uses them a lot. The chalks are also easy to clean off clothes, skin and of course of the chalking board itself. The chalks are recommended for ages 3+ which I would definitely agree with as the chalks are rather thin and I don't think a child under that age would be able to hold the chalks in the correct way to apply it to the board.
I would definitely recommend these, they are as cheap as many other brands and in my opinion they are just that little bit better.
