DIARY IN DISGUISE

Little Miss likes to have some kind of diary especially when we are going away and just before a recen holiday this seemed ideal for her to record her holiday memories.

PRODUCT AND PACKAGING...

The diary is attractively packaged in plastic box with suggestions such as "hide your secrets away" and "looks like another book", all of which are sure appeal to a youngster kken to keep their scribblings safe from prying eyes.

Inside the packaging is a box cunningly disguised as a book with pages drawn on the bottom side and top and a removable spine showing the name of the disguised book- Angels by Jane Smith. On the back of the book is some blurb about the book and on the opening side of the book is a small padlock and key to keep those secrest safe.

Inside the box/book is a small diary tied at the side with ribbon, a gel pen and some stickers. There isn't a lot of writing space in the diary so i would suggest it's for an older child who can write quite small. However, a real plus point for us is that there are no specific dates just numbers so you add your own month, and can therefore start the diary any time through the year. At the side of each diary page is space for notes so plenty of things to write!!

Once the spine is pushed onto the "book" then we see pages at the other side, a title page and the title on the side and think it's a book!

VERDICT...

A nice novel idea. Little miss likes the idea that she can write her diary, put it inside the box, padlock it and when she adds the spine, hey presto, it really is a diary disguised as a book.

The pen, although small is big enough for small hands to handle, and the flower and heart stickers add a bit of grooviness to the whole thing.

Once the small diary is inside the box, there is still some space for storing other secret things, so it's a bit like a safe for youngsters, because everything can be locked inside.

I would, as Crayola suggests, recommend this for children aged 8 years and above. Younger children may find the small space too small to write in and may find the short pen difficult to manipulate. For little Miss, who has just turned 8, this has been a real hit. She has enjoyed writing in the diary, and because of the smallish space, doesn't feel she has to write too much, and she loves the fact that she can fool everyone into thinking it's a book.
