Crayola Glitter Glue
Advantages: Keeps kids entertained, can be used for a variety of things
Disadvantages: Could cause a real mess if in the wrong hands lol
Glitter glue must have been around for absolutely ages! I remember playing with it when I was really young and i'd totally forgotten about it until a few months ago when my friend showed me her nail art - it looked amazing and I was shocked to discover she'd created this look by using glitter pens! Obviously though, glitter pens are mainly used for arts and crafts. While visiting my cousin a couple of weekends ago, her little girls Darcy and Faith were designing card designs as their school was going to make them into proper cards and create a set amount of copies to send to friends and family in return for a small donation to charity.
They each had a set of the glitter pens and were thoroughly enjoying using them but unfortunetly due to the consistency of the pens (it's a bit like thick glue with sparkly bits in), they were having a bit of trouble in getting a pretty design. I decided to step in as my cousin was busy cooking and together we created two lovely card designs which were mainly made with felt tips however we incoportated a sneaky bit of glitter onto Darcy's snowman's hat in order to add that extra bit of christmas sparkle. The glitter glue sets really quickly and so there's not alot of waiting around for it to dry. The glitter glue comes in a pack of nine and are reasonably priced at around £3.50 per set, however I bought my set (for nail art!) for £2ish from Tesco as it was on offer. Considering that this glitter glue is a Crayola branded product, I do think this is a good price as each glitter glue pen is a decent size, and the glitter glue itself is good quality.
The pack of nine glitter glue pens/tubes each have a variety of vibrant colours such as pink, blue, green, etc, and ofcourse silver and gold which my cousins little girls particullary liked. I love the clear glitter glue as it makes an amazing top coat over matte nail varnish. The glitter glue can be used for art projects, decorating cards or just generally for kids to play around with when drawing. The glitter comes in transparent, squeezable plastic tubes which have a little nib that dispenses the glitter glue. These are quite chunky and so are reasonably easy for even small children to use. Glitter glue is suitable for children aged 3 and upwards. Darcy and Faith are 4 and 6, and had no issues using these pens and it wasn't a messy experience like I thought it might be, however they are sensible kids so if your little one is mischevious it may be a good idea to avoid this glitter glue as it has the potential to cause a real mess!
I recieved my christmas cards from Darcy and Faith last weekend, and they look brill! The design has been photocopied to create several copies, but you can tell where the glittery bits are and it adds a really nice, christmassy look to the cards. I've also used glitter glue for various other things other than the usual arts and crafts etc, such as nail art (it looks amazing, honestly!) and I also used a red one when it was halloween for gory but sparkly blood tears running down my cheeks - I got lots of compliments and a few people commented on how long it must of taken for me to create this look when in fact it took just seconds to dab a bit onto a slanted brush and apply to the selected areas - it also washed off fine and didn't irritate my skin. Overall, these are good value. Kids love them and I quite enjoy using them too!
