Advantages: WASHABLE!!!
Disadvantages: Pricey
My daughter is 22 months old and from a very early age has loved to colour and paint (well, scribble anyway). I bought her loads of crayons and pencil crayons, and at first all was well. But then the cheeky little thing decided to colour my walls... and I'm not joking! She would happily scribble all over our cream walls. If ever there was a rogue crayon, she'd spot it! Fed up of repainting the walls, when I saw these crayons, my prayers were answered and I promptly swapped her crayons for these ones!
They cost exactly £2 from Asda for a pack of 8 crayons with the following colours: blue, pink, red, yellow, blue/purple, blue/green, green and brown. There are packs of 16 and 24 available for slightly more money, but they offer more colours. The crayons are chunky which makes for easy grasp and grip, and they are ergonimically shaped for little fingers - sort of triangular instead of smooth/round which is fantastic as it means that little one can control the movement of the crayon and keep a firm grasp.
The crayons are quite tough compared to their rivals as they are so chunky, this means they are less likely to snap (although they do snap as my 22 month old has proven!) so they will last longer. They colour just as well and as easily as normal shaped crayons, but they are much easier for a toddler to hold.
The best thing about the crayons is that they really are washable. If my daughter gets crayon on her clothes, instead of having to throw them away (after hours of scrubbing, stain removers, washing etc and still not removing the stain) - they simply go in the washer as normal and the stain comes straight out. If she ever colours on the walls (and she has) then all it takes is a quick wipe with a baby wipe or damp cloth - no need for cleaning products or a lot of physical effort.
My daughter still has her other crayons but I only bring these out for supervised periods - if I know that I might get distracted (ie. phone ringing or someone knocking on the door) then I leave out the washable ones, as I know that in the few seconds I am away she will no doubt colour somewhere she shouldn't and at least then it can be easily removed!
£2 seems a lot for crayons but they do last and they are good quality - much better than other brands or cheaper versions. It also means a lot of saved time, money and effort on attempting to remove marks from non-washable crayons, so it's a big 5 stars from me!
