Crayola Storage Caddy For Crayons and Paints
Advantages: Does wash off easily when wet, Enjoyed by little one's
Disadvantages: Difficult to clean when used dry.
I am a great fan of Crayola products. I do think they are good quality and had never been disappointed so when I spotted the Crayola caddy with Bath crayons In Home Bargains for £1.99 I sneaked it in my shopping basket and gave it to my son on his third birthday.
He was very excited to receive this partly as it was a present he opened a couple of days before his birthday when he opened them a couple of days early when he went upstairs to play with a friend and decided to show him his birthday presents literally. However he did not get to play with this till after his birthday.
The Caddy itself is designed so you can add a collection of other crayons so essentially is encouraging you to buy more. It is made of hard plastic with the traditional yellow and green Crayola logo. It also has two suckers on the side which secure it to the wall this is very useful as the base of the caddy is larger than the edge of the bath.
The pack comes with six different colour bath crayons; red, yellow, orange, green black and blue. The crayons are encased in a plastic colour coded casing which has a white click system for moving the crayon down the barrel. The Caddy is pictured with additional items but these are not included in the box.
My son was delighted as I pointed out earlier he did have to wait a few days since he opened it till he got to use it so added to the anticipation. I very quickly discovered that the crayons do not work well if they are not dipped in the water and they actually become a nightmare to clean off, however if they are dipped in water and not left to dry they are simple to wipe off with a wet flannel or wipe.
My son's drawing are not very recognisable and though he can do a few shapes he is still generally at the scribbling phase so he had a great time scribbling all over the bath and thoroughly enjoyed himself. I did find that if they could make them floating it would be far better as they tended to sink and then we struggled to find them. Also when left in the bottom of the bath they did tend to go soft which meant an activity that was meant to be relatively rule free I suddenly had to ensure they were left soaking and remind his to put them back in the caddy when he had finished playing with them. I found that within a week we had already used two up and then he completely got bored of them after a few weeks so the remaining four were stored in a huge caddy on the side of the bath
This week friend's children came for the evening while their parents went to a meeting. The girls are aged two and four and all three had a bath before settling down for the evening. These crayons did tend to be the centre of the focus of all the bath toys we own. The oldest girl can usually draw relatively recognisable pictures and she did attempt to draw a picture and did consider the colours she was using while my son and the youngest girl just were happy with one colour. I myself tried to draw a simple drawing and found them very thick and did not glide that easily. The click system is quite hard for a child to operate and the four year old did attempt to move the crayons down the casing and think this would be operated by and older child but at this age it is ideal that they are unable too. The oldest girl decided to scribble with the black crayon all over her hand and while I did have a little panic it did simply wash off with water. The three children did however have loads of fun and they then were all given a wipe dipped in water to clean the bath off which they also enjoyed.
I do think the Caddy is oversized and designed to encourage you to purchase further bath art toys and do think that I would welcome a much smaller version of the caddy. I would also like someone to develop these crayons to float. While these toys do create relatively short fun
This is available on Amazon for £5.99 with free super saver delivery. I would not personally pay this much for this product I would simply buy a pack of bath crayons however at the price I paid I do feel I got value for money so it is worth checking out Home Bargains.
Summary: room for improvement
