Advantages: tatty ted images
Disadvantages: store them correctly
I love Me to You and making cards so when it was announced docrafts were bringing out Me to You craft items I was rather excited. The Winter Wonderland stamps are my favourite Me to You product.
The stamps are clear so will need to be placed on an acrylic block to use (this must be bought separate.) I usually prefer rubber stamps which are already mounted as they last longer but there are advantages to clear stamps. Clear stamps are easy to store, cheaper and you can see where the stamp is being put (as the acrylic block is clear plastic rather than wood.)
An issue I have had with clear stamps is that if they are not stored properly they go really soft and jelly like which leaves them unusable. It says on the package not to have them exposed to light and extreme temperatures and I did leave it in one of the hottest rooms in the house. I have learnt my lesson now and keep them in my bedroom in a cool dark place.
Also to keep them safe you must rinse them after use and leave them to dry naturally so there clinginess will come back. The cling allows them to stick naturally to the acrylic block and the plastic sheet which they are stored on inside the package. Amazingly, they never lose cling, however many times you peel them off.
The stamps in the Winter Wonderland set are all Winter themed but not necessarily Christmas. I always use them for Christmas cards but you could use them for other occasions.
There are 16 stamps of different sizes which all fit onto an 8 inch by 8 inch square.
There are five stamps which are around 5cm tall. These include tatty ted with a Santa hat and candy cane, smuggling up in a coat, keeping warm with a fluffy hood on a coat, hiding behind a tree with a snowball and with a hat and scarf on making a heart shape with a sparkler. These sized stamps are perfect for making your own Christmas tags as they are small and detailed and need little more than a bit of colour. Last year I made all my Christmas tags with the candy cane tatty ted, I like that one best.
There are two stamps which are around 10cm tall. One is tatty ted in a fluffy white coat and the other with tatty ted balancing in a coat and boots. I love this stamp as it looks really cute. These two stamps make the focus of a card. I like to make a glitter puddle for the balancing bear and add a few snowflakes for a Christmas feel.
The biggest stamp is around 10cm wide and has tatty ted and a snowbear sat on a snowy bench. This is adorable for Christmas cards. As it's snowy the only colour is the bears hat though so I usually make the rest of the card colourful to make up for it.
All of the stamps are very detailed and have every bit of fur you would see on a picture. This means you don't really have to colour the bear in and when I have i've found the colour makes tatty ted too dark.
I always use a tatty ted coloured ink pad with these stamps as other black and grey ink pads are never quite the right shade. The tatty ted ink can be bought seperate in two shades of grey and a blue like tatty teds nose.
The smaller stamps on the sheet include five snowflakes of differing sizes, 1 small flurry of snow (an unorganized bunch of dots) and two messages, "From Me to You" and "With Love." The snowflakes are good to make a backing paper and look beautiful with a touch of glitter or a sparkly stone centre.
The stamps print clear crisp images and should last a long time with correct storage. They never lose shape as they always go back to the original shape after peeling off. When you peel the off for the first time it is like a tug of war. Despite this, even when you think they are going to break, they don't, they are very strong.
To keep them safe they can go back into the packet after use. There is a plastic sheet with coloured images on to protect them and as a suggestion as to what colours to use. I usually colour them my own colours though.
I think I bought these for around £10 at a local craft shop. This is great value as if they were wooden stamps it would be about that for just one of the large stamps.
These stamps are fantastic to make your own tatty teddy cards. Everyone will love the little blue nose bear.
