ELC Bits & Basics Ready Mix Paint
Advantages: Cheap, Long-lasting, Strong bottles, Bright colours, washes out of clothes
The paints can be purchased from The Early Learning Centre from online or in-store. There is about 9 different coloured ready mixed paint to choose from, each just £1.00 each for a 284L squeezy bottle. You can purchase all the main colours such as Blue, Red, Green, Black, White, Yellow, Orange, and Pink & Purple. The paint comes in a clear bottle which is quite flexible to enable you to squeeze the paint out. The lid is made from strong black plastic and this simply flips open to reveal a small hole in which the paint comes out of. I also purchased the paint palette to go with the paints, so I could pour the different colours into the palette which made it easier for my nephew to use the paints. I flipped back the lid of one bottle of paint and tipped it upside down over one of the palette sections. The paint ran out of the bottle really easily, and there wasn't really a need to squeeze the bottle as the bottles are very full when you first purchase them. The lid closes easily, simply by flipping it back and pushing it firmly on to ensure the paint won't leak. The paint is water-based which means it washes off and won't ruin clothes, how-ever I do recommend buying your child an apron which is what I did with my nephew as he got a little messy when using the paints. The paints are recommended for children 3 years and over. On their website it states that the paint is specially formulated to provide excellent colour and coverage.
I gave my nephew some coloured sugar paper and he dipped his brush into the paint and started painting pictures. The paint was quite runny and did drip a little onto the newspaper which had been laid down to protect the surface underneath, just in case. He mixed some of the colours up on the paper and loved creating different colours and pictures using the paints. Depending on how thick the paint is on the paper, depends on how long it will take the dry. My nephew likes to plaster a fair amount of paint onto the paper sometimes and we have to leave it over-night to fully dry. Even though my nephew did have an apron on, he managed to get paint on his hands which is expected and also a little on his denim trousers. As the paint is water-based it washed off his hands easily and also washed out of his jeans as well.
I think the paints are really good value and it entertains my nephew for hours, whilst I paint different pictures with him. As you get a lot of paints in the bottles, they are also quite long lasting as well. Sometimes the paint may dry a little around the lid; how-ever this can be wiped off to avoid the hole in which the paint comes out of getting blocked. Although the paint is mixed, I always give the bottles a good shake before pouring some out into the paint palette. I give the paint 5 out of 5 stars for good quality and fantastic value.
