ELC Blackboard Eraser
Advantages: Inexpensive (I think!). Easy for children to hold.
Disadvantages: It doesn't erase chalk!
Having cleared out a pile of junk today from my sons toy box, I came across his Early Learning Centre Blackboard Eraser that was bought for him about 2 years ago after he was bought a blackboard for him to draw and doodle on. Although he still has the blackboard and will play with it from time to time (although he now prefers the white board), I don't think we used the eraser more than a handful of times, simply because it wasn't very good. While I generally think the ELC provides excellent products on the whole, I have to say that this one wasn't one of the better buys - and it really wasn't very useful at all. I can't remember how much the eraser was, but I suspect it wasn't very much, but really that's not the point at all. Whether it was cheap or not, it really should be up to the job it's designed to do - and actually it's just not.
The eraser comes in a brick-like form with the eraser part on the bottom part of the block and a grip on the top of the block. The main part of the eraser is made of plastic and it forms a handle for which the block can be gripped, even by very young children. This block is light-weight and easy for a young child to manipulate. The eraser part is attached to the bottom of the block and is made up of a thick wedge of foam - and it is this that is used to wipe the board. However, it simply doesn't wipe the board very well at all and it just tends to fade the chalk without wiping it completely off. This means that when we used the eraser there were remnants of the previous "artwork" on the board, whereas when we used a cloth, this wasn't the case.
Overall, I just think this eraser is pretty useless and I wouldn't bother!
Summary: Not recommended.
