When me and my Husband were organising our wedding one thing we decided we would like were favour boxes on the tables, we had already spent a lot of money on the wedding and pre-made favour boxes were quite expensive, they were quite cheap to purchase individually but when you added up the total it cost quite a lot. After doing a bit of research we decided to have a go at making up our own favour boxes, we hunted around online until we found some DIY favour boxes we liked, we came across a website site that did some DIY Heart Embossed Favour Boxes, they were exactly what we were looking for and went with our colour scheme perfectly.
We ordered the DIY Heart Favour Boxes online and when they arrived they came in bundles tightly wrapped in clear plastic to keep them clean and protect, the bundles were then placed inside a cardboard box for added protection to prevent them from being bent during delivery. The packaging was nothing fancy and didn't actually tell you anything about the favour boxes, however it was very effective at keeping the favour boxes in perfect condition, not one of the boxes was bent or damaged at all.
The DIY Heart Favour Boxes come flat packed and are basically small heart shaped boxes, all boxes are embossed with a delicate floral pattern which is on both sides of the box.
There are two small holes at the top of the boxes which allow you to thread something through them to keep the boxes securely shut. Inside the box are two small card prongs which fit together using a small slit in each one, these are designed to hold the boxes open and helps them to keep their shape.
The boxes are made from a thin but sturdy card material which means the boxes are easy to manipulate into shape but also thick enough so that they maintain this shape once put together. When it came to buying our favour boxes we didn't want anything too big to fill, the DIY Heart Shaped Favour Boxes measure 10cm at their widest point, these were the ideal size as it allowed us to put a few little chocolates box without being too big.
When we decided to buy the equipment to make our own favour boxes I was a little worried as to how they would turn out, I'm not very artistic so I was concerned they would look messy. However when it came to putting the boxes together it was very simple, all we had to do was push the boxes into shape so they formed 3d heart shapes, once the boxes are in shape you simply slot the two prong inside the box together (these hold them in the correct shape) to form the box this is all you need to do, you can then fill the box with whatever you want and then secure the box shut by threading ribbon through the holes in the top of the box.
To secure our boxes shut we purchased pink and cream (our colour theme) flowers on wire to thread through the holes, we then treaded a thin ribbon through the holes as well to cover the wire. Making up our favour boxes was really easy, it was a bit time consuming and fiddly when it came to decorating the boxes but actually putting them together was quick and easy and didn't take too long at all.
As I have mentioned we purchased the DIY Heart Favour Boxes online, they are available from a website called Paper Tree and are sold for 35p each. We purchased between 80 and 90 of these boxes, we bought a few extra in case of mistakes, personally when compared to other favour boxes we saw I felt these were reasonably priced, we managed to get the decorations reasonably cheap from a local craft shop and purchased the chocolates in bulk so overall the favour boxes worked our quite reasonable by doing them ourselves, it also gave them more of a personal touch rather than buying them already made.
I was extremely pleased with the DIY Heart Favour Boxes, the boxes themselves were quite plain and simple but the embossed floral pattern on the boxes made them look classy, the plain design of the boxes made them perfect for decorating yourself so that they match perfectly with your colour scheme.
The boxes were easy to make and decorate even for someone like me who is not artistic at all, for us the boxes were the perfect size. The favour boxes are of an excellent quality, the card is strong and sturdy, they did not look cheap at all and in my opinion were well worth the money. By making the favour boxes ourselves it added a personal touch and I would highly recommend the DIY Heart Favour Boxes.
The Heart Shaped Favour Boxes are available in several colours and can also be bought ready made up, decorated and filled if you don't fancy doing it yourself.
