      Advantages

      Disadvantages

An essential tool for any craft box.

One essential piece of equipment for my card making and scrapbooking is a very sharp guillotine. I use this for many obvious reasons such as cropping photographs and trimming card.

I previously had a very basic light weight paper trimmer which lasted about a year, albeit that it was used heavily, however, when the blades where no longer cutting, and it could not find any replacement blades, I decided that a good strong guillotine was in order.

My sister bought this Fiskar 22cm/9 inch guillotine for me for Christmas. I think she actually purchased this new on ebay however it is available on Tesco direct for a little under £15.

Fiskars advertise this guillotine as being lightweight, and it certainly is, even though it looks much heavier. This is of great advantage to me, as my craft box is constantly getting weightier, being loaded down with my new crafts purchases, so anything that is portable and light is a plus in my eyes.

This guillotine has an orange coloured plastic frame with rubberised non slip feet. The surface of the guillotine is aluminium and provides measurements in both centimetres and inches, thus catering for all.

As already noted, this guillotine can trim paper up to 22cm/9 inches wide, with its super sharp blade, and Fiskars claim that it can cut up to 5 sheets of A4 paper in one go. I have not tried so much paper at one time, however I have tried three sheets, and have got the same results - perfectly straight cut paper. It will also slice through heavier card as well.

What I particularly liked about this guillotine was that is has a clear fingerguard next to the cutter, allowing the user to firstly, hold the paper/card down firmly so it doesn't slip, and secondly, to protect photographs or paper from fingermarks.

I have only been using this guillotine for about a month and a half, and so far I am extremely pleased with how sharp the blade is, but also how easy it is to use and carry around. It provides me with beautifully straight cut paper every time I have used it. Long may it last! For any keen card maker or scrapbooker who is looking for a small light guillotine with great cutting ability this is definitely one to consider, especially for the price!
