The Fiskars templates are a useful item to have for crafts.
The template is the same size as an A4 piece of paper and is made from a thick strong plastic. It is a transparent orange colour, as are most of the other templates which you can also buy.
The template has eight heart shapes on in different sizes, the smallest being 1 inch and the largest being 4 inches. They are meant for use with the Fiskars Shape Cutter which goes around the template and cuts out the shape but, although I have one of those, I tend to draw around the shape and cut it out as I find it quicker.
Around the edge of the template is a border which you could also cut out. The one on this template is called Victorian. I don't use the borders often, I usually just use the shapes.
The template has holes on the side so you can store them in a folder. I put all of mine in a folder as it keeps them all together and makes for good storage.
I like the hearts as I find I can never cut a heart exactly right. With the template you will always get a perfect heart and that always looks more professional on cards. I like to cut a few sizes out and layer them on top of each other or cut a photo into a heart as that makes it look nice and different.
I have had this template for years and it still looks as good as new. There are no signs of scratches or pencil marks to be seen.
This template is a great way to cut out a perfect heart, without fail.
The Hearts template is just one of a large range of templates from Fiskars which also includes squares, circles, ovals, stars, flowers and hearts to name but a few. The templates are designed to be used with the Fiskars shapecutter (a handy handheld cutting tool that glides easily around the template) or as a tracing guide.
The template is 28.0cm x 21.6cm, it is made of rigid orange translucent plastic with a thickness of 3mm. The left hand side of the template has been cleverly designed holes in it so it can be stored in 2 or 4 hole ring binder.
The template sheet contains 8 different size hearts;
- 4.00" diameter
- 3.50" diameter
- 3.50" diameter
- 2.00" diameter
- 1.50" diameter
- 1.25" diameter
- 1.00" diameter
In addition to the eight hearts three of the four edges are an elaborate scalloped shape and can therefore be used for making borders etc... The template has a grid marked on it with lines every ½ inch which is really useful when trying to line up your work to ensure you draw/cut in exactly the right place. The plastic used to make the template is really good quality and can be used time and time again without showing signs of wear and tear. I have been using mine for over six months now and it still looks as good as new.
I find this template really useful in my card making, I make all my own cards but always strive for professional looking results and by using this template in conjunction with fiskars shapecutter and craft mat I can get perfect results every time. As the template has a variety of sizes it is really good for matting and layering. (Building up layers of card of same shape but decreasing in size to create a border effect). Although Fiskars recommend the using their shapecutter with this product if you have a steady hand you can use an ordinary craft knife and still get good results.
I would recommend this product to any card maker or scrap booker. To get the best use of this template I would however recommend that it be used in conjunction with the Fiskar shapecutter as they work so well together and really make cutting heart shapes very easy. My only criticism of this template and all fiskar templates is that the grid lines are in inches and I much prefer to work in centimetres. A minor criticism of what is essentially a great quality and useful product.
Fiskars Hearts Shape Template is a sheet that is made of a thick sturdy plastic. It is orange in colour and its transparent so you can see through onto the surface below. There is a grid on the plastic sheet with squares which measure 1.25 cms x 1.25 cms. The template itself measures 21.2 cms x 27.5 cms. It has hole punch holes down the left hand side of the template which would enable it to be secured or stored in an A4 binder - which is where I keep mine.
I predominantly bought this template for my ten year old daughter to use as she is very much into arts and crafts and recently she has been making cards to sell to her friends at school (ten years old and already an entrepreneur!) I've helped her to make her cards and these templates ensure that key shapes i.e. hearts in this case, are symmetrical and smooth. The results look very professional.
She uses a craft knife (with supervision) and a craft mat to cut out the shapes which ensure the edges are smooth and sharp. The template has remained undamaged and unchipped despite being used fairly constantly for four months.
I purchased this template as part of a park with 3 other templates and a craft knife cutter from Amazon for £20.
I would recommend this for anyone who needs a template for arts and craft purposes and its a good idea to buy this as a set as its more economical that way as I think the single sheets are around £4.50.
