My eldest son who is 5 is obsessed with Ben 10 and probably has every Ben 10 toy you can buy, santa made sure of that. As much as he loves Ben 10 though he loves to colour just as much, I mean he literally spends hours colouring. Therefore when I saw this comic maker, a combination of his two favourite things I thought this would certainly make a good christmas present. I realise he's a little younger that the recommended 7 years plus but he does have the patience and with a little adult help I was sure he'd be fine.
I said in a previous review how I bought a Roary the Racing Car game from the Argos as part of a 2 for £15 offer, when bought on it's own it would have cost £9.99. Well this Ben 10 Comic Maker Kit was the same and this was the other item I bought as part of this offer. I have also seen the Comic Maker in Toys R Us at £9.99.
The Comic Maker comes in a box and inside you get colouring pens, pencils, background sheets, sticker sheets for characters and speech balloons and accessories. You also get over 250 stickers, all of which need to be coloured in. With that many stickers to colour it will probably take my son till he's 7 to finish it.
The idea is to colour the stickers and stick down wherever you want the art work to make up a story. You can add on the speech bubbles and the sound effects to make the comic even more fun. If you want to make the comic strips up from scratch you add your own backgrounds to the blank sheets. There is an instructions and ideas booklet that tells you all this.
Three week on from christmas and my son is getting on with colouring in the stickers, it may be too old for him but he's always saying 'I'm off to do some of my comic' so as long as he's enjoying it I don't think it matters what age group it is for. If we want to make it into a good quality comic then it is maybe gonna take more adult supervision than we first thought and it will probably be a long project. I'm sure it's gonna entertain him for hours though.
Overall I think this product by Flair is a great idea, I love anything arts and crafty. Children are always reading comics and the opportunity to make there own is just brilliant. It gives you everything you need, including instrutions and colouring pens. A fantastic product for any child that loves to colour, loves Ben 10 and has a good imagination.
I think that this is one of the best arts and crafts toys that I have seen for children. Most children love to draw and imagination plays a great part in their development.
This box is full of great thing to help your child with imagination, drawing, story telling and creating something original. This is made by flair who I have found make some good creative toys. It is Ben 10 so the boys will love it because they get to use their favroute charactors to create their own story.
In the box is 8 different coloured pens and a pencil if they want to draw. They have over 250 stickers of all the Ben 10 charactors that they are able to stick on the comic sceen sheets. There are 12 scene sheets that they can colour in and make the comic strip. Also there is a cover and binder in the box that when the child is finishing their comic strip they can be put into it to make it look like a real comic. I like the idea of this because it helps them be more creative.
The age group is 7+ this is because it is easier for them to understand how a comic is put together by that age and can make the story follow on consistantly. If you are buying it for a younger child you will have to sit with them and help them which will create a good bonding time with your child. I would advise that the youngest age to buy this for would be 5 due to the difficult story telling side of it.
The stickers are in black and white and are able to be coloured in by your child. They are easy to pull off the sheet and stick well to the comic strip pages. The comic strip pages are a4 sheets that have about 6 black and white picture scenes that are able to be coloured in to make the story. The pens in the pack are not brilliant so I would advise to have some spare felts to help along the way. The binder to the comic is easily assembled and holds the pages together well but help from an adult would be needed.
My grandmother bought this for my stepson for christmas from the littlewoods catalogue for £10. I think this is good value and they will only want to do one page at each sitting because boardom will set in. It is packed with lots to do and really does help with imagination. My stepson is so proud of himself when he has done a page. Since christmas he has done one page each day that he has been here so this is still going 2 weeks after. It has kept him amuzed for 2 hours at a time which is brilliant. I now think that they should make these for girls and other ones like batman for boys to give a wide range.
This is a very worthwhile and educational toy for children and because most boys are ben 10 fans this will go down very well. It is good value for money too and will create some great bonding time and the child will be proud of what they have achieved.
