Fruit Shoots Smencils
Advantages: Fun, work well, great stocking fillers
I recently had the chance to try some Smencils. What? I hear you ask - well they are pencils with a smell - hence the name Smencils and they are fascinating.
The ones that I had were a pack of five in Robinsons Fruit Shoot 'flavours' or should I say fragrances? They cost around the £6 mark although you can pick them up at a slightly lower price on EBay at the moment. They are also available in shops individually at about £1.25 each too.
The five graphite pencils are made from 100% recycled newspapers and they come all lined up side by side in a plastic pack as you can see at the top of this review. Inside the pack each pencil comes in its own corn based biodegradable tube which will keep the fragrance fresh for up to two whole years!
The scents in this particular pack are tropical, apple and blackcurrant, summer fruits, orange and apple. Smencils are also available in various other scents including fruits, sweets, spices and more. They also make Smens which, not unsurprisingly, are pens with fragrance.
So that's what they are - what are they like?
Well I think they're really fun and would make great stocking fillers this Christmas. The pencils are strong and durable and the fragrance is really brilliant! I could really smell the Fruit Shoot smells in mine and the tube does keep the fragrance fresh which if I am honest came as a surprise to me. I thought the fragrance would wear off very quickly but I admit I was wrong on that assumption.
The pencils and the outer tubes are brightly coloured and have the Fruit Shoot logo and pictures of the relevant fruits on them which make them attractive and interesting to children.
Of course the other advantage is the fact that the Smencils will encourage your child to write and draw instead of sitting in front of the TV playing computer games.
I probably wouldn't buy them for myself - at 57 maybe they are a little young for me - but I would definitely recommend them for children. They will love them!

A final word of warning - these Smencils are not to be given to children under the age of three years old.
Summary: A great, fun idea
