      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Great for a party!

Having numerous nephews, nieces and kids next door, I decided to splash out on something to amuse them with at our last Christmas party.

The set was a great success, not least because it meant the kids had to sit still for ten minutes or so and the grown ups got to get a bit of peace. (Some of them anyway!)

It is possible to buy kits like this for about half the price but I didn't want to risk putting cheaper and possibly less friendly gunk on the little angel's faces. (Note a touch of irony there!) I trust the Galt name so was prepared to spend a bit over the odds.

There are quite a few colours to choose from in stick or disk form, a couple of tubes of pink and silver glitter (which I found very fiddly, most of it ended up on me!) Two brushes, a sponge for faster application and a pallette for mixing the colours on. There were a couple of stencils too but I didn't try these.

The colours went on (and came off) easily enough and the drying time between colours was not too bad. After a while it was easier to gauge how thick to make it.

Soapy water was all that was needed to remove it and it didn't seem to dry the children's skin out. One child was prone to eczema so we put a barrier cream on first.

The basin looked a bit spectacular after they all washed for dinner.

The guide that was included was fairly useful and gave some good information about how to build the designs up. It didn't give much help about how to stop the wriggly bummed kids from moving at the critical moment! There were a few lop sided tigers running around that day because of this!
Nor does it give any information about what to do when Little Angel number 1 wants to be painted like someone you've never heard of!

      "Mr Migglepop peas aunty Gill!"
      "Who???"
"Mr Migglepop ob cbcbcbeebeees ob course!"
      "Erm......what colour is he then?"
      "Bink ob course!"

I asked her if I could do Mr Migglepop with a tiger mask on, she was fairly happy with that. (I think)

I painted about ten faces that afternoon and there still looks like there is enough to do at least the same amount again, not by me though. Michaelangelo I am not. I think I will stick to 'Pass the parcel'.

The children were delighted. I was pleased because the paint showed little signs of coming off onto their clothes, it's washable too so it wouldn't have done any damage if it did. It seemed fairly durable but a few bits had to be touched up throughout the day. (it amused me to learn which kids used hankies for runny noses and which kids used sleeves, the colourful evidence, as it were, being observable on a few sleeves!)

The reprobate element of the party thought it would be a good idea to paint the faces of two sleeping members, it might be useful for you to know that the colours do wash out of a beard, eventually.

I think this kit is good value for money but it does need an adult's steady hand and some patience to reproduce anything recognisable. I wouldn't turn a set of children loose with it unsupervised. (Or inebriated adults, come to think of it!)

The set can be bought online from Amazon for about £10.00 or from Galt, ELC or Toysrus. The price doesn't seem to vary more than a few pence wherever you buy it.

I recommend this toy which can definitely be used more than once and entertains all ages.

Does anybody know what Mr Migglepop looks like?
