Since a little girl I have loved doing crafty things so of course when I had my two boys I was going to bring them up getting their hands sticky. My eldest who is four years old absolutely loves doing anything crafty and has since he could hold a pencil where as my youngest who is two isn't interested one bit. So my eldest does get inundated with crafty things as presents one of them being this Grafix foam fun pictures.
*****The set content*****
This particular set contains a smallish picture board which measures roughly 14cms by 17cms which has a small flimsy stand to it like a picture frame. The picture board is of a butterfly, ladybird and lots of flowers. It is made up of very bright colours with a blue background. It could maybe be said it is a little girlie but this didn't bother my son as he was making it for his grandma. The board is actually made from thin cardboard and we have found it impossible to stand up so instead just prop it up against something.
There are eighty eight foam stickers which come in a range of colours and twenty five sparkling gems in five different colours. Along with all this there is an instruction leaflet which shows you where to put each foam sticker on the board. Although the set is recommended for three years and above I feel a three year would need help with actually working out where each sticker goes my eldest did.
*****The idea of the set*****
The idea of the set is to make the picture come alive with the foam stickers and stick them in the right places on the board. It would make a lovely present to give to a family member once finished. And that is exactly what happened to ours. Each foam sticker is shaped to fit on the board so you are unfortunately a little limited to what you do with it. This is a one day project which did upset my son a little.
Even though my son is four years old and this is recommended for ages three years and up he did need my help with it. There is an instructions leaflet with the set which has a diagram of the actual board covered in numbers that correspond to the numbers on each coloured foam piece on the diagrams below it. For a child of my son's age I do feel it is a little difficult for them to understand. I didn't mind though as I enjoyed doing the design with my son. He got a lot of enjoyment out of placing the sticky foam pieces to the board and seeing it come alive. My son found removing the foam from the white sticky back paper fairly easy and I loved to see his concentration as he tried to stick it to the board as neatly as he could. As much as my son wanted to finish it all in one go I could tell he was tiring so we took a couple of days to do. We both enjoyed doing this project and he was very pleased with the finish. It certainly helped with his hand eye coordination and I did see it improve even when just doing this project, he got neater the longer he did it.
These set are available in Asda and cost around the £2 mark. You can also buy them directly from the Grafix website too. I think they are great value for money and they entertained my son for quite a long time and produced a lovely gift for a family member.
