A fab crafty set for little girls!

I made the somewhat unwise decision to allow my Daughter to have a big birthday party this year, with over 20 friends. Being just 2 weeks before Christmas, we ended up a little overwhelmed with gifts! I have to say though, she did receive lots of fantastic little craft sets amongst those birthday gifts, this scrap book kit being one of them. The recent bad weather and school closures have given us plenty of opportunity to test them out, and this set is definitely one of the best.

Grafix is a manufacturer of children's puzzles, stationary and craft sets. It's a brand that I hadn't heard of until recently, but seems to be growing larger and can be found in many places on the high street these days. Their craft sets come in a wide range to suit different ages and abilities. Best of all are very reasonably priced; usually between £2 and £6, making them ideal party gifts for school friends, stocking fillers or pocket money treats.

The scrap book kit comes complete with a hardboard scrap book with 14 ring bind-ed pages of thick coloured card. To start you off with your book, there is also a glue stick, plastic scissors, 2 sheets of stickers, sheets of coloured and patterned paper, stencil sheet, a stamper and 4 chunky pens. There is also a handy instruction booklet giving you ideas on how to layout your pages and ideas for themes. The set is pink with lots of feminine accessories and is quite girly, so probably better suited to a little girl. There isn't an age on it, although it isn't recommended for under 3's due to small parts. As it was a gift, I'm not sure of the price paid although I did see them in Asda for just £2!

When my daughter and I came to open the set, I was instantly impressed with the quality of the things inside. The book is adorable looking, and very well made with quality thick card. It even has a place on the front to attach a photo if you wish. Being only 5 years old my child wasn't that interested in following the instruction leaflet with themes and layouts, she just wanted to get sticking and gluing! We decided to cut up her birthday cards and stick those in, as while there are some crafty bits included, they would only cover a couple of pages alone.

I did find the scissors a bit difficult to use, and so did my daughter. They look really good, nice thick plastic and safe for little fingers. However they are very stiff and she couldn't manage them herself. I also struggled a little with them; they didn't seem to open wide enough and it was difficult to keep neat with them. In the end I gave up and cut out using my own scissors, however, they are fine for children who insist on cutting themselves.

My daughter used her birthday card cuttings as the main picture on each page and decorated around them using the stickers, pens and stamper. There is a good range of stickers from fairies and butterflies, aeroplanes, animals, houses and flowers, and even some long thin border stickers. There are also triangular stickers suitable for attaching photographs into the book. Being quite young my daughter was just random with the stickers, but I think an older child would also get a lot of enjoyment from this set as they could be more organised and creative and make a pretty keepsake of friends or family with the set. The other accessories are also of good quality, and will continue to be useful after the scrap book is finished.

My daughter really enjoyed her afternoon crafting with this scrapbook. The great thing about it is its suitability for a wide age range. I'd consider this in the future for a girl up to 10 year old. You will need additional materials, as the ones included are for accessorising your creations. This is a good way for your child to use their imagination and creativity. Despite her somewhat randomness with the stickers and a pot of glitter I found in the drawer, my daughter decided to cut princesses out of her cards and give them their own pages, so I did feel she was thinking about her book and how she would like it to be.

I've been impressed with other Grafix products recently, and this one is certainly no different. It was a great present to receive from a friend...much more appreciated than yet another doll. I'd recommend this set to anyone after a small gift for a girl aged 3-10 years old or after a rainy day activity for their own child.
