      Very helpful

      Interesting, but not interesting enough

      My sister and I used to play with a Kaleidoscope when we were younger so last year I bought my niece one of her own. This was different to the one I used to own because you get to make it yourself which part of the fun. The kaleidoscope comes with everything you need to make it and although it is not the most robust of toys; it was fun for my niece to make and she did not need too much help (She is 7 years old.) The sad thing is that once it was built, she did not want to play with it.

      ==Price and availability==

      The Kaleidoscope costs £8.99 and I bought it last year on Amazon. On looking on the internet, Play.com, Argos and Amazon are all stocking it.

      ==Description and directions==

      The good thing about the kit is that it leaves it up to your imagination. You get some instructions and suggestion but really you can set it up how you want. The price you are paying is for all the bits and bobs as the actual main body is just a toilet roll tube, well it is slightly thicker really. In the kit you get a sheet of Holographic Foil cut to the right size to decorate the tube, a plastic chamber with removable cover, three mirrors made from safety glass, four little bags of different beads and jewels categorised as 'Glow, Holographic, Colour and Clear', three colour filters, an eye Piece Cover and finally a card containing double adhesive tape strips.

      ==My experiences==

      Once you make the toy you can then experiment by placing different toys, jewels and beads in the chamber and as you twist the kaleidoscope and hold it to the light, the objects move and create lovely patterns. This is fun for children as it is like looking into a different world. As the sun light catches the jewels and travels though the filters; distorting things into blues and reds, it really is quite fun.
      I was a little disappointed that my niece did not play with the toy for as long as I expected, she seemed to tire of it fairly quickly once she had built it. It took around an hour to fully make it and try all the bits and pieces and once the novelty was over, she wanted something else to do. I had a little play myself and indeed, it is not as fun as I remember; I do not blame her for being bored.

      My sister reliably informs me that the toy has made its way into the bin as a month later it was accidently trod on by my brother in law and squashed!
      Money well spent; I do not think so and for the length of time she played with it, the quality of the trinkets and tube, I consider it overpriced.
