My six year old daughter is pony mad and has been since she was a toddler. Every birthday is the same she asks for My little pony toys and this year after browsing Amazon uk there really was nothing there she did not already have so on my quest to find a My little pony toy that she would like and didn't have i discovered the My little pony decorate your own pony . The toy looked interesting and fun at a reasonable price so i went ahead with the purchase.
Hasbro My little pony decorate your own pony set cost £5.99 with free super saver delivery on Amazon uk. My little pony decorate your own pony comes in a pink box decorated with the My little pony theme.
The box contains 3 x My little pony ornaments from plaster of paris, 6x small tubs of paint, and two paintbrushes. Each pony in the set is different, we got Rainbow dash, Pinkie pie and my daughters favourite cherry lee.
The age for this toy says 5 years and up.
As the pony ornaments are already made in the box so its just a case of painting and it is a messy thing so some newspaper on the table before starting was a must. We set the table and i let her go ahead and paint her ornament. I did have to open the paint tubs as they are in small fiddly plastic tub and the lids flick up, the colours were a little poor, red, blue, yellow, green, purple and white. My daughter used the brushes and paints on each pony and by the time she had finished the ponies were unrecognisable but she was happy. The brushes are very cheaply made and the hairs come out easy so my daughter was pulling them back of her pony as she was painting. This set kept her attention for three hours. We had to leave the ponies to dry over night before touching them.
All in this is a cute cheap gift for My little pony fans. My daughter was disappointed there was no pink so we made some in a mixing tray, no black for the ponies eyes was her other complaint other than that she was happy and proud of her painting that all i could ask for.
I would recommend this set for the older children and the ponies are solid plaster so will not brake easily.

Our First Impressions:
This looks like a nice set and is well presented in a big pink box with pictures of completed ponies on it.
The pony models are breakable china and I was pleased to see that they were very well packaged to avoid breakage. I was also impressed with the pots of paint as there is a nice selection of colours and the pots are a good size.
The paint colours are pink, purple, blue, green, white and yellow.
My nearly 4 year old daughter got this for Christmas and she was so excited to get started as she loves anything to do with horses and ponies.
Painting the ponies:
Painting the ponies was pretty good fun! My daughter painted two ponies and I done one.
Unfortuanatley the brushes are not the best quality and they are both the same size. I think this kit should have had a thicker brush and a thinner brush to make painting the ponies a bit easier.
The Poster paints dry quickly and it was immediatley apparent that our ponies were never going to look as good as they do on the box as the paint drys streaky and you cannot get an even finish even if you do a few coats. The pink and the blue were the worst for this and the paint that looked best was the yellow which didnt streak at all.
It is very fiddly to do as you have to try not to get any of the paint you use for the body on the ponies hair, we both failed miserably at this bit! when you then paint the hair any paint you have accidentally got on the hair from painting the body shows through.
Painting the eyes and decorations on the pony is a bit of a mission! the brushes are far too thick and there is no black paint so you cannot possibly paint the ponies eyes on to make them look like they do on the box! I had a small tin of black paint of my own so used that instead!
Our ponies took a few hours to paint and dry as we waited for the bodies to dry before painting the hair, hairs etc and they look nothing like they do on the box... not that I expected them to really!
On closer inspection of the box when we were finished I noticed that the decorations on the ponies may well have been super imposed on by computer! So we had no chance of ours looking that good!
Although this set can be a bit fiddly and the box is misleading it is great fun to do, and my daughter does not care that our finished painted ponies look a bit ropey... she loves them and thinks they are the best things she has ever made so that's good enough for me!
