Fun models for Toy Story fans

My children were bought this cute little playdough set for Christmas as it features Mr and Mrs Potato head, from surprise surprise their favourite film of all time, Toy Story.

I was a mean mummy, and quickly hid it, as i am not the world's biggest fan of play dough. Don't get me wrong, i don't mind them playing with it, it is the cleaning it up when it gets trodden into my carpet that makes me so stressed, and i am also really weird and don't like it when the colours all meld together. So this kit to me, meant very close supervision required.

After a bit of pestering, the kids persuaded me they should be able to play with this, so i picked a point where we had at least an hour to spare, and made sure that the coffee table had nothing else on, and then got out two tea trays for them to work on. (I've found one tray per child means less mess and a bit less fighting in our house.)

On opening this kit, i have to say it is a really nice kit that fits well with the Mr potato head theme. The first thing that came out of the box was the play dough. There were 2 tubs of skin coloured dough. One to make the ball for each body. There is then also 3 smaller tubs of red, white and black play dough to enable you to make the accessories to dress the model with eyes, mouth, ears, hat, hair, moustache and anything else you should wish. The colours of proper shop bought Doh are really vibrant. I can really tell this is the proper stuff.

The next thing we pulled out the box was 2 pairs of feet to act as a base for our models, and 2 sets of arms. We very quickly got to making egg shapes to make the body of the potato heads.

There are then 2 tray moulds to help you make your accessories. These are very nice indeed as there are all the features you could think of. Different eyes and mouths so you can recreate Mr Angry Eyes from Toy Story 2. The trays are double sided so there are a lot of accessories to be made. The only one missing is the handbag for Mrs Potato head but we managed to fashion one of those ourselves with a little imagination.

My kids are loving this kit. They will happily play with it until my patience runs out on a daily basis. I think it requires some adult help as it is quite tricky to get the moulded accessories out of the tray. It requires nimble fingers which my 4 and 2 year olds can't manage. Some bits of the tray are also too small for me to get the dough out, and i have to resort to using a pencil point to poke it out.

It does deserve a recommendation, although i am only going to give it 4 stars as i feel my 4 year old should be able to get the dough out the tray by himself, so in this respect i think it could have been designed for small fingers a bit better.

We have had a lot of fun recreating the scene from Toy story 3 where Mr potato head is trying to escape from Sunnyside nursery and he uses his accessories on a wrap and a sausage to try and move it about.

If you have time and inclination to play with your kids with this, then it is likely to be a hit as it is the most fun i have ever had with Play Doh since i was a child myself. I guess i will be cleaning this one up for quite a while.
