Advantages: a good selection

Disadvantages: none

Adrian has a play dough bucket, I believe it was bought for his third birthday he is now 4 and plays with this toy a lot. It is playdoh’s 50th birthday this year I had not realised playdoh had been around nearly as many years as I , but I do seen to just remember playdoh in my childhood, we usually played with plastercine .

In 1956 play dough was only available in white and in a huge tin, in 1957 new colours started to be introduced. Now there are many colours and many modelling toys available. Playdoh was developed by Rainbow crafts of Cincinnati, first coming to England when I was 10 in 1964. Hasbro purchased playdoh in 1991

For those very few that do not know Playdoh is a non toxic modelling compound. This dough available in many colours. It is soft and easy to manipulate.
I would recommend playdoh for children of about 3 years old may be a little younger. This playdoh bucket is a useful starter bucket of playdoh. There are several buckets of playdoh the one Adrian has are the packet with fun bucket, also available is the birthday bucket, and a make a meal bucket. There are in fact 71 playdoh products see http://www.hasbro.com/playdoh/ for full details of all playdoh kits.

The packed with fun bucket is quite a large yellow plastic bucket with a red lid and a picture of playdoh and playdoh tools on it
The big yellow bucket holds five 2-ounce different coloured cans of modelling compound, five animal molds, four fun molds, two cutter rings, serrated cutter, zigzag cutter ring, plastic roller, extruder and three rails.
The animal cutters are a duck a rabbit an elephant a horse a butterfly. The fun cutters a person shape, a star a Christmas tree, a ring. The extruder for those that do not know is a tool for producing more or less continuous lengths of playdoh.
The bucket is super as it is an ideal way to keep all the playdoh and tools together in the toy cupboard.

So there is plenty of playdough and plenty of cutters to get your child started. You can add to this set with other playdoh items or just add your own a rolling pin and other cutters are always good.

This set provides endless fun will entertain children for hours. This playdoh bucket provides enough material for imaginary play pretending to make cakes biscuits, making models of animals; of course your child does not have to use the tools but can use his own imagination to make anything out of the dough often a snake or worm, maybe a ball or a snail.
This bucket of doh can be used for solitary play or co-operative play with a group of children sharing the dough and the cutters there is enough dough for several children to use.
Playdoh encourages and develops creativity and imagination. Playdoh helps develop finger control developing muscles and keeping fingers active we use this as a tool for helping the disabled pupils hand control at my workplace squeezing the playdoh in hands and rolling out with hands to make long sausages. (Playdoh would I think be a useful medium for using with sufferers of arthritis to help keep hands mobile squeezing ands rolling playdoh.) Playdoh will help develop tool use. So not only is playdoh fun it is educational too
You could use this playdoh to make many play scenes make pretend birthday cakes. Any model that you can imagine. Although this toy is great for amusing your child on its own, play with your child make their childhood fun pretend to eat the cakes and sausages they present you with, play with your child and give them happy childhood memories

I would certainly recommend buying this bucket of fun as a present for a child aged over two they will get lots of play hours from it One word of caution, playdoh contains wheat so watch out if you have a child with wheat allergies as a lot of children will try to eat playdoh although non toxic children should not really eat it.

This playdoh bucket of fun is available at toy shops and many department stores both on line and off line. Amazon has it for £9.00
You can of course make your own playdoh my recipe is 1 cup flour ½ cup salt 1 tablespoon cream of tartar , 1c tablespoon oil, I cup water , food colouring . Mix and heat the ingredients in a pan on the hob stirring all the time do not boil. When the consistency is good remove from heat cool put in airtight container then it is ready for play. If you play with warm playdough it is really lovely warm and soft.

Have fun playing with your doh/ dough. Mary
