Everybody no matter how old they are loves play d'oh! I purchased this set for my daughter as a present for Christmas. We have had moon sand and things in the past but I have to say that play d'oh always comes out on top.
This particular set allows you to play burger shop and make all of the things that you need. It comes with a variety of attachments that lip on to the unit. These can be a bit awkward to get off and on and my daughter often needs a bit of help with this part. The moulds can be used to make the bun, burger, tomatoes, lettuce etc. You can also make fries (which are really easy to make).
My only criticisms would be that you only get one plate which means that you can only make one "meal" at a time. This can be rectified by using the plastic plates that you get in children's tea sets (as I have found that these are the perfect size). Also as previously mentioned it is a bit hard for children to manage to get the mould attachments on to the actual unit but as I enjoy playing with this with my child it is not really that much of a problem. I did also buy extra pots of play d'oh as you don't get a huge amount of it with this set (it is enough to play with though).
This fun Play-Doh Build a Burger set lets kids make, press, mould, twist and cut out lots of different food like burgers with all the trimmings, hot dogs, potato chips, salads and french fries.
The set consists of:
A pressing unit where all the moulds attatch,
5 Tub of Play-Doh, green, light brown, dark brown, red and yellow
Moulds - tomato, onion, lettuce, pickle, burger &bun.
2 other attatchments with lots of different shapes to make chips, mustard, hot dogs, sesame seeds and basically whatever your imagination allows!
The set costs on average £15, although I have seen it very slightly cheaper online. It is widely available both online and in most toystores,Argos and larger supermarkets.
I think this is very good value as all the pieces are made from a high quality plastic that will last for many years if looked after. My son has other sets by play doh that have been hand me downs that are now about 25 years old from when my sisters and I were young- still in great condition!!
I would say my little boys favourite feature is the attatchment that allow the play doh to sqeeze through into lots of shapes- especially long chips or a super size hot dog! Although this part is easy enough for him to push down and cut etc, the pressing unit does tend to get a bit blocked with playdoh and you have to keep digging out all the left overs!! - This requires an adult and even then is a bit fiddly.
There is also the twist a chip tool that makes potato chips. Although the tool is fun, the playdoh crisps fly out of the bottom in every direction and go absolutely everywhere!! This is fine and only a very minor negative, just make sure you find all the bits else you'll have nice trodden in playdoh stains to get out of the carpet!
The rest of the set is GREAT and are easy for my 4 year old to manage independantly. The playdoh is of great quality and as long as the lid is on it will not dry out unlike most other brands. It is definitely worth paying a little extra for the playdoh brand.
This set provides HOURS of fun for my son, he happily creates lots of food for me in made up scenarios like mcdonalds or a picnic etc. It is actually suprisingly theraputic for adults too!! (or maybe thats just me showing signs of madness!!)
This set encourages imagination skills and with all the attatchments, it certainly helps develop fine motor skills. Although the main aim of this toy is FUN FUN FUN, Playdoh can be used as an aid to any topic you are trying to work on, colours, shapes, number work and many more. Every child should have some!
On a recent trip to toys r us I was amazed by the playdoh range. This build a burger set is one of many fantastic looking products- ice cream shop, sweet shop, sandwich maker, BBQ and LOADS more. There were also character sets eg In the night garden and starwars and even playdoh games eg hungry hippos & mr potato head!! I was more excited than my son!!
I would definitely 100% recommend this toy!!!
NB:Play-Doh is a reputable, child friendly brand as it non-toxic and does not contain peanuts, peanut oil, any milk by-products or latex. However, those allergic to wheat gluten or specific food dyes may have an allergic reaction to this product.
Due to my son's birthday being so close to Christmas, he always ends up with an obscene amount of money, so to try and give him some ideas on what to spend it on we always take him to Toys R Us and let him pick exactly what he wants, hence this review!
The product I will now review is - "Playdoh - build a burger".
I have brought my son Playdoh products before, and although he has thoroughly enjoyed playing with them, the longevity of the "dough" is very short lived due to the fact that my son cannot get it through his head that this stuff dries solid if left out of there containers.
The set contains a unit that once set up, performs a multitude of things.
The unit can stamp out a burger, bun, tomato, lettuce and cheese slice, though there are only three "stamp" areas but with all the above mentioned shapes have interchangeable heads.
At the side is a function that enables you to make chips, cheese sprinkles and carrot sticks, pretty much all the extras you would expect when having a burger takeaway!
There is also a portable "crisp" cutter, very much like a grinding action salt pot, but with much more punch, I was literally finding these for days after the set was played with, as every time the cutter part at the base of the unit swung around, it flicked the playdoh across the room!
There is also enough playdoh in enough different colours to make all the afore mentioned items, there is nothing worse than having no colours and having to "eat" a green burger!
The set and functions are very easy to use, my son had it for his 5th birthday, but due to there not being too many small parts and the playdoh being non-toxic, this set can be used from the age of 3.
My son loves being able to make up orders for myself and my husband, with my 8 year old daughter enjoying having a go also, though due to the fact that the burgers and the extras have to be piled up to be realistic the colours very quickly begin to get mixed up, though if they are still soft and usable a few weeks after opening them I am more than happy!
Price wise this is being sold at www.toysrus.co.uk for the sum of £9.99, which for the amount of time my kids have spent playing with the set is a fantastic price.
