      Disadvantages

An average glitter glue that serves a purpose

When I find the time I can be quite crafty in terms of arts and craft! I make bespoke name plaques whether for horses or people and having a decent amount of items in stock in terms of paint, glitter, gemstones etc in a variety of colours is a must as not one plaque is the same! There are of course a very wide range of arts and craft brands and sometimes it is hard to find what exactly you are looking for.

One place I tend to frequent quite often is Hobbycraft, they are local and have a big enough selection of items for me personally to be able to choose exactly what I need without being overwhelmed. On my recent trip I needed glitter glue in several colours and whilst I like the Rangers Stickles Glitter Glue I wanted one that didn't have a thick consistency and I ended up buying Hobbycraft's own brand of Glitter Glue.

Hobbycraft Glitter Glue comes in a 120ml plastic bottle with a very fine spout so you can easily apply the glitter to where you need it. The bottle is completely clear so you can easily see the colour glitter and what it actually looks like. The label states the product name and also includes the Hobbycraft logo. Packaging is very simple but then the majority of Hobbycraft items have this very simple theme.

The plastic bottle the glitter glue comes in is quite soft and so if applying the glitter glue directly to the item you are wanting to use it on you don't need to be too heavy handed to squeeze it out of the tube as you may end up with more than you actually want! For me I tend to take the top off (it does unscrew) and tend to dip my paintbrush in as I paint wooden letters with the glitter glue as an overlay.

The glitter glue is a lot thinner in consistency than I was expecting which is not great shame but the initial feel of it, it does feel a bit wet and almost like a watery consistency whereas I was expecting something quite sticky. Now, for me this was fine as I was wanting something I could easily paint with but I think for those wanting it for something to add specific detail it could be too thin. The glitter is quite fine as expected and it easily comes out of the spout if using it in this way.

For me I do find this glitter glue perfectly fine for what I need it to do. However, should you use acrylic paint or spray the glitter glue will not stick to it whatsoever. I acrylic spray all of my outdoor plaques and I find that I have to apply the glitter glue before sealing them which is fine for me and it gives a better result. The glitter glue does however work well on painted items including wood and manages to dry almost instantly as soon as it is painted on.

I have the iridescent and gold variety and I find that when I paint it onto my plaques and letters that the glitter does disperse so does give a really lovely subtle effect although to make it more glittery I can paint on more layers. Obviously is not painting and using it directly via the spout the glitter effect will be more intense but for me I like the subtle effect it gives, it does dry a little rough however but nothing major and hardly noticeable.

Overall, I do like this glitter glue. Whilst it won't have the best consistency for some crafters I like it and it suits my needs perfectly. However, at the price of £1.99 per 120ml bottle it won't break the bank and would probably make a nice addition to most crafters kits especially given the range of colours it comes in. Definitely a recommendation for me.
