Advantages: Price and ease of use for young children
Disadvantages: Takes a while to clean
I couldn't wait until my son was old enough to play with Play-Doh as I loved it as a child. We bought him the fun factory for Christmas when he was 20 months old. We chose this as many Play-Doh toys are aimed at older children and are more complex to use, and as this was very simple we thought it would be great to start with.
In the pack you get the fun factory machine, 2 small pots of Play-Doh and a plastic cutting knife.
It works by taking some Play-Doh and lifting up the purple lever, pushing the Play-Doh in to the hole and then pushing the lever all the way back down. The Play-Doh is squeezed out forming your chosen shape, you can then use the knife to chop it off. The shape is selected by spinning a wheel on the front. There are several to choose from and they make for example star and triangle shapes as well as long spaghetti shapes.
Under the lever are also 3 shapes you can press the Play-Doh in to, as well as patterns on the top of it that you can press the Play-Doh on to create patterns on it.
There is a cut out on the spinning wheel that allows you to open it and inside is enough room to store the knife and a tub of Play-Doh. It also allows for easier cleaning.
It is relatively easy to clean but does take a few minutes, and if you don't want to get your colours mixed up you have to clean it properly before putting another colour in it.
My son got the hang of this very quickly and its simple to use. It provides hours of fun and was a fantastic price (£5 from Amazon). It is good quality and the tubs of Play-Doh last a long time too.
Summary: Fun toy for all ages!
