Ranger Liquid Pearls
Advantages: Dry easily and give a vivid colour
In my spare time I like to create wooden plaques mostly for stable doors, bedroom doors and miscellaneous door signs. I don't do this on a grand scale and will basically create a plaque when an order comes in, I have no desire to have a craft business but for me it is quite therapeutic and having an hour to myself on an evening able to create something special and unique for a customer gives me a little bit of satisfaction.
My plaques can be personalised in a number of ways whether using sequins, gems, buttons. However, as of last year I was wanting something I little different to add detail and came across the Ranger Ink selection of Perfect Pearls. I needed pearlescent paint which came with a very fine nozzle and after seeing this range in my local Hobbycraft I immediately purchased a few in a variety of shades to try them out.
Ranger Ink is a brand that create a wide range of craft products and are actually quite bespoke. They are a New Jersey based company but do have a lot of their ranges available in a lot of craft stores in the UK as well as plenty on Ebay. Their items are for every level of crafter whether like me you do it more as a hobby or for those that actually make a living out of it. Their prices are also incredibly reasonable.
Liquid Pearls in essence is pearlescent paint which comes in a small 5oz bottle. The range consists of 30 shades made up of a variety of colours. Liquid Pearls are incredibly versatile and can be used on a wide range of materials such as paper, card, fabric even decoupage products and wood work. The formula gives you a vivid and pearly finish which is also waterproof. They come in a small clear, plastic bottle which has a clear screw on top. The label is pretty simple with the product name and Rangers Ink logo.
Since I started to use them last year I have built up quite a good collection of their shades. Not only do they have a decent selection of pastel shades they also have darker shades making them ideal for any type of craft project. Regardless of the shades I have they all give exactly the same result which is great. Each bottle has an easy flow nozzle making it easy to get an accurate finish to my plaques. I generally use the Liquid Pearls to make tiny little dots on my plaques and each tiny amount which has been squeezed out is about 1mm wide.
You do have to be gentle when squeezing the bottle because of its consistency which although is neither thin or thick you can end up getting too much out of the bottle so you do need to have to be gentle when using it especially if you are wanting to use it to detail a craft project or using it on an intricate item (I use it to detail small wooden horseshoes so you do need to be careful!). One thing I have found with the nozzle is that if you haven't used one of the bottles for a while it can block up the nozzle and you do need a paperclip or something just as thin to unblock the nozzle but that's hardly an issue.
The Liquid Pearls doesn't take long to set completely about half an hour to be completely dry as it can harden up but is still soft on the inside so it is important that you either use it right at the end of your craft project or wait for it to completely set. But the finish it does give is a lovely pearlescent shine which is definitely noticeable without looking at it close up which is nice and just adds a nice touch and finish to my plaques which is great.
Overall, I really can't find fault with the Ranger Ink Liquid Pearls. It is ideal for the smaller type of craft projects due to its bottle size so you do need to use it sparingly. When dry it produces the exact same colour as it looks in the bottle which is perfect. If you are wanting a product to give a craft project something a little extra then these should be looked at. Only problem is once you buy a few you will want all the shades going! An easy to use product which gives great results! 5 stars from me.
