I absolutely love cardmaking and papercraft and have a bag of what I would term essentials included in this would be my Stickles glitter glues. They are glues which contain a large amount of glitter. They are widely available from craft shops and online and cost around £2 each. (They also do a large tube of Ice stickles and these are around £4).
The glues themselves come in a range of colours including clear, blues, pinks, yellows, oranges, red, black etc and are supplied in small clear tubes with a removable lid and you simply squeeze out the amount required. The nib is fine and it is very easy to apply small amounts even to very small areas.
The glitter in the glues is very fine, much finer than in children's glitter glues and the effects are much more subtle.
My personal favourites are the clear glitters. There are a number of different ones in the range and include Icicle and Crystal. There are differences in terms of the sizes of the particles of glitter and in terms of the hue of the glitter. I love the clear glitter as it can be applied over any colour and gives a clear and shiny finish with the original colour showing through and therefore you do not necessarily need to have a wide range of the colours in order to be able to use on your projects.
Unlike loose glitter used with a separate glue these are far less messy and you are able to apply the glitter just to where you want it rather than all over yourself and every possible surface. I also find it to be cheaper to use these fine glitter glues than to use separate glitter and glues.
The glitters give a beautiful sparkly and glossy finish. I like to use them to highlight areas of an image such as flowers, jewellery, snowflakes etc. They are really great at highlighting specific details and adding interest to a project.
They are so easy to use and do not take up much space in your craft bag. They are also inexpensive and mess free (but if you do manage to get on your clothes they do wash out0 and a tube will last a very long time even with continuous use.
They would definetely make it in my dessert island craft bag.
Rangers Stickle Glitter Glues are in my opinion, the best glitter glues out there. I have always bought this brand and have quite a collection of most colours.
I buy these from a local craft shop for around £2 each, not sure on the exact price. This is quite a lot for a 5oz bottle of glitter glue but they are excellent quality and well worth paying for.
As I don't use large amounts of glitter glue at once it lasts a long time. I wouldn't use them with children as they will empty the bottle in 5 minutes.
There are a range of colours, I don't know one that hasn't been made. My favorite colour is Icicle which is white and pale blue glitter. It really does look like an icicle. I have gone through countless bottles of this shade.
The bottles are made from soft plastic which is easy to squeeze and release the glitter glue. The lid twists on and off easily and the glitter glue hasn't dried out although I have had them for a few years.
There is a small applicator which is thin and can be used to write, draw, or do whatever you like with the glitter glue. It flows out with ease.
The glitter glue can be used on any material. I have used it on wood, paper, fabric, funky foam and it has worked out fine.
It is filled with glitter and has a solid colour look unlike some other glitter glues which are more glue than glitter.
The glue takes a while to dry, I don't know how long though. I usually leave it overnight.
The glitter glue is used more for decorative purposes than gluing, it can be used for gluing on small things like sequins though.
The glitter glues are acid free which means in time it won't ruin your work. All crafts you want to keep, like scrapbooks, should be made with acid free materials otherwise they will deteriorate in time.
These are washable but I have never got them on clothes so I don't know how true that is. They do come off hands and tables or other surfaces easily though.
This is a brilliant glitter glue for craft work. It doesn't crack after drying and lasts a long time. I recommend this brand over others.
I mentioned in a previous review that in my spare time I create handmade wooden plaques and to add texture and design there are always little items needed to help give them a little extra whether I use buttons, fimo models and glitter. Since using the Rangers Ink Liquid Pearls I looked into the Rangers Ink range a lot more only to discover a crafters candy shop and of course I couldn't resist purchasing a few new items!
One of those new items were the Rangers Ink Stickles Glitter Glue. I have used other glitter glues (and still do now and then) but have had varied results but considering how well the Liquid Pearls were I thought it was worthwhile giving them a go. Rangers Ink is a US based craft company who create a whole host of crafting items but despite being across the pond their items are stocked in stores and websites nationwide so easy to get hold of.
What is it?
Rangers Ink Stickles Glitter Glue is simply a clear glue filled with coloured glitter. It really as simple and as easy as that! The Stickles Glitter Glue range come in 36 different shades all of which are very varied from the softer pastel shades to the deeper hues.
The glitter glue come in small 5oz plastic, easy to squeeze bottles which have a small thin spout which is covered by a plastic screw on top. The bottles are clear so you can clearly see the colour of the glitter. The Stickles logo is on the front together with the product information on the one side of the bottle.
To use the glitter glue you simply need to unscrew the top and carefully squeeze the bottle until the glitter glue comes out. It has been designed to be used on most materials such as paper, card and even candles! Because of the thin spout they are supposedly easy to write with as well as make dots and dashes.
I personally use the glitter glue on card when embellishing my daughter's photo scrapbooks and of course my wooden plaques. I do myself find it hard to write with the Stickles Glitter Glue so I prefer to use it to create lines, dots and dashes. I find that despite the difference in the two materials the glitter glue does exactly the same job.
The glitter glue I find doesn't take long to set completely and although I try and keep my dots and dashes as small as possible I find that when drying it does expand ever so slightly so you do need to be careful when you use it as to not squeeze too much out as the design you are wanting could be easily ruined. It is definitely too easy to waste the product as it can come out of the spout quickly so you cannot be too heavy handed.
The one thing I do like though is that the colour of the glitter remains instead of getting a sparse glitter that you can sometimes get with glitter glues, the Rangers Ink version provides a lovely bright colour so you don't need to re-apply to build up the colour. It doesn't take long to set about 30 minutes which I find is more than adequate as I only use it to add a finishing touch to my items.
Finally, one glitter glue that provides a good amount of glitter and colour within one application. It dries quickly and gives a lovely effect to any project. A must have item for a keen scrapbooker or someone who just likes to embellish their own craft projects.
