Advantages: Really good to play with
Disadvantages: None
Let me pass on some gems from my many years of experience. Playdough yes play dough recipies. Cheaper than the pots you buy in the shop and really good for children to play with.
First salt dough recipe to make those Christmas tree ornaments, sorry it's a bit late for that really.
I shall use cups as my unit of measurement yes technically it is a real quantity but use any standard cup or mug as long as you use the same one all will be well.
Salt dough
3 Cups of Plain Flour
3 Cups of Water with added colouring of your choice
1½ Cups of Salt
Mix all the ingredients together stirring in water gradually. Mix and knead well for 10 minutes. Then you and your child can roll it out make it into many different shapes
Then cook in an oven at 100- degrees celcius for a couple of hours till the dough has dried out. These can then be glittered , painted and varnished.

Playdough 2 -everyday dough

This is a cooked one lasts longer if kept in airtight container after it is made.
2 Cups of Plain Flour
2Cups of Water
A few drops of colouring of your choice
1 Cups of Salt
2 Tablespoons of cooking oil
4 Teaspoons of Cream of Tartar
To add texture add some rice or lentils to the dough.
Put all ingredients into a saucepan, and then stir while cooking over a medium heat until the desired consistency is obtained. This does need a lot of stirring with wooden spoon
Take of heat and knead well.
In recent years I have made the above recipe in microwave it's easier. All you have to do is first mix ingredients then microwave for 1 minute, knead well after; kneading warm play dough is really good.
Playdough is fantastic for children they will play for ages with it .
You do not need expensive ingredients value / cheap flour is good enough
Do have fun making models and pretend food from this dough .
Summary: dough for modelling and playing with
