      Crayons

      Chubbi Stumps

Working with young children, I tend to buy these crayons in the big packs of 40 crayons or the smaller packs of 8 crayons, so that they can have a pack each and keep their own colours (doesn't always work that way!).

My latest buy has been several packets of the 8 crayon packs. These come in a cardboard box, with a lift off lid. Not the most practical thing for small fingers, and sure to rip, so we take the crayons out and keep thim in small plastic pots.

The crayons themselves are 8 different colours- black, brown, purple, green , blue, red, orange and yellow. Each crayon is about 8cm long, and as the name suggests, is chubbier than the normal crayons. They also thankfully don't have all of that paper wrapped round them which has to be removed as the crayons get shorter or snapped. These are far more practical and are just crayon!

Because of the chubbiness of the crayons, the crayons are ideal for small hands and are recommended for children age 36 months and above- they can be used with younger children but I assume they are not recommended in case they eat them. The crayons are ideal for practising basic mark making and for colouring in, and we continue to use them when children can write letter shapes so that they can develop their fine motor skills using a range of media.

Apart from them being ideal for small hands, the fact that they are thick means that they don't snap very easily. They are also the type of crayon which when pressed onto paper to do some writing or colouriong uses about a half of the crayon. These tend to colour the paper which has been marked but there are then no bits of wax all over the paper- it's almost impossible to press too hard.

The crayons are non toxic, and do wash out of clothes and wipe of surfaces.

      PRICE AND AVAILABILITY

Widely available online by doing a general search of the name, thesecost around 99p for a pack of 8. Bulk buying is generally cheaper, and I think these represent great value for money.
