      My daughters love them

Both my daughters love colouring in and drawing pictures and they love going in our local discount style stores as they can pick up new colouring items with their pocket money. This carry along set comes in about 8 different character options and I think we own 3 of them now, they all sell for £1 each which I think is great value and they certainly keep the children amused.

The set comprises of a cardboard piece about 4 inches square with a carry handle on it also made of cardboard, attached to the back of the piece is a packet of crayons and attached to the front of the piece is a book of pictures to colour in.

The crayons are in a box attached to the back and there is a piece cut out so that you can see the crayons inside. You get 5 crayons in the set pink, yellow, green, blue and red and they have a Thomas the Tank paper wrapped around each one. The crayons are in a small plastic bag sat inside a piece of cardboard so once they are taken out of the packaging they just roll around in the box as there aren't actually enough crayons to fill the box.

The front of the pad has a picture of Thomas the Tank on it and states in the corner there are over 60 pages to colour and 5 crayons. Inside the pad there are loads of pictures for your little one, some of the pictures are quite hard to colour with crayons so my daughter often uses her pencils instead and generally I don't really like crayons being used without me watching them. On some of the pages there are little activities like which engine goes in which hole at Tidmouth sheds, my only problem with the pad is that my daughter expects me to know every engine and what colour it is supposed to be!

The set is supposed to be for ages 3 and up but my 2 year old has a set too and although she cannot manage the activities she still enjoys playing with it and she loves that it has a carry handle for her to carry it around with her. My older daughter loves these sets and she thinks it's great when she manages to complete the activities on her own and the fact her sister is too little to be able to do them yet. This is a fantastic set and well worth a £1 and there are so many different characters available there's something for every child.

      highly recommend for pre-school children

As a family who are always out doing things and going places I am always on the lookout for things I can carry with me to keep my son occupied. My sister recently moved 270 miles away so a journey like that one is always going to be boring for a young child. I am always looking out for travel games and things to do on the move which seem to be available in their hundreds for slightly older children but not for pre-school children. So when I saw this Thomas and friends carry along colouring set I instantly thought it would be great to carry in my handbag. I purchased it for my son middle of last year and it is still going strong.

This little set is a fantastic pass the time item for not only Thomas fans but any bored young child. The carry along set is very small but this is perfect for storing in your bag it doesn't take up much space. It measures 13cms in height 11.5cms in width and about 2.5cms in depth. It is very light so doesn't hold your bag down. I always carry my son's everywhere with me.

The actually book contains over seventy colouring and activities pages and six wax crayons which slot into a little pouch on the back of the book. It looks as if it is just part of the back of the book. I will admit to replacing the crayons from time to time as we do often lose them when we are sat in a café and they drop on the floor and roll under places! The original colours you got with it though were your basic colours of red, green, blue, yellow etc. I have now replaced the wax crayons with those small little pencils you can get with colouring sets as the pictures in the book are quite detailed and the wax crayons don't give your child a chance of actually colouring any parts in without it looking a big blob on the page. My son recently learnt the art of colouring within the actually picture and not the usually scribble young children do over the top of the picture, so the pencils have helped him.

As I have mentioned the pictures do have detailed parts on that would be difficult to colour with wax crayons once they blunt off. The pictures are of all the trains and working pieces from Sodor. Some of the pages are just for colouring and some are little activities. My son does struggle with some of the activities as he has just turned three but with a little help from me or his daddy he manages them. Of course this doesn't work whilst in the car!

My son loves the fact I carry this around with me and if we are sat waiting somewhere he now asks for it. Recently while out for lunch at a local pub with a friend my son and her daughter became restless waiting for their lunch. So I tore a piece out each for them to do and they sat quietly colouring till their lunch arrived. So not only do the children enjoy it but so do I!

The recommended age range is three years and above. My son was two when I got his and he still enjoyed it. He could only manage the colouring to begin with but now he is three he is progressing on. We will be due another soon I think as it has started to show the wear of being bashed around in my bag. There are other designs so I think we will go for a change. You can get Toystory, Peppa Pig, Spiderman, Bob the builder, Disney and more.

You can find them on Amazon for two to three pounds and I think they are totally worth it. If you're a mum or dad on the go then I would highly recommend one of these to keep with you.
