Advantages: Stickers & magnets actually stick
Disadvantages: is a little clumpy and lots wastage
My kids really like this, I've read the other two reviews and whilst I partly agree I also think it's a great bit of kit for kids to have a go. It does need a small amount of patience to get used to it and probably a child who likes doing loads of cutting and crafty fiddly bits will love this. Obviously one with no patience and who likes a quick it's done in a jiffy item will not! I have a child of each!
As you can see from the picture there's the main purple holder bit with the windy handle and then there are two refilable cartridges, when it says refilable - it's the whole cartridge with either the magnet or sticker bit all attached the whole white bit of plastic gets replaced - I didn't realise that at first.
I did have to help the girls to begin with but now they'll both just go to it and create something for the moment! It does have a fair bit of wastage however there is a way round it, I cut out strips of paper in a width that will fit through, then I get the girls to draw on them as many as they want and then put it through so they can cut it out afterwards - hard to explain! The only problem comes if the strip is too long so my usual size would be about 5.5 x 9cm I make plenty of these in advance and leave them to it then.
I have found that the magnet maker bit runs out faster than the sticker one, I think this might be because there's more sticker stuff on a roll than the magnets.
The only other thing we found slightly difficult at one point was that it stopped turning easily. My clever hubby took it apart and managed to get it to work again - I guess that's not as easy for everyone.
If you are crafty like me you can also use if for other uses such as your own stickers for the kids or personalised magnets to label things!
The whole thing costs about £20 although it looks like a few places out of stock so maybe it's discontinued?! the refils are about £7.
I was asked extra questions about this so although I've answered in the comments I'm also adding them here for people to read within the review.
Basically you draw on a peice of paper or cut out a picture from a magazine as long as it's a size which will fit through the slot in the sticker/magnet maker. Then you choose if you want to make a sticker or a magnet and put that white plastic insert in. Then you push the paper (with your drawing or cut out picture) through the slot and turn the handle, as you turn the handle it sticks to the stickyback or magnet (depending what you've chosen) and out the other side comes your picture with the backing on it. You cut it off and cut out round your picture.
The sticker design bits - show in the picture, are samples they supply which you can use.
Summary: A great little crafty gadget for kids
