Advantages: fun and easy to use

Disadvantages: none!

My six year old daughter really loves making things and just lately she has been enjoying making her own scrapbooks - like I do. That's great but she does have a habit of wanting to use all my equipment - such as my sticker maker. Therefore, when I saw the Tomy Cella sticker maker on sale in Hobbycraft I thought it would make an ideal 6th birthday present for her!

One thing I knew that would really appeal to my daughter is the fact that this machine is pink - and she loves all things pink. It is also made out of a sturdy plastic but is also quite lightweight with a very handy carrying handle. When you use it, it will just stand up on any flat surface and it does not take up much space at all.

The machine comes with some very basic instructions which are just a series of photographs to follow, As the machine is very easy to use though, you really don't need anything more detailed than this.

So, how does this nifty little machine work then? Well, as I said before, it really is very straightforward! You cut out whatever it is that you want to make into a sticker. There are some little bright and colourful pictures provided that you can use but there are not that many of these and the best idea is that you use it with all of your own designs. These could include pictures, photos or anything that you have cut out of anywhere. It really does not matter so long as it does not have a width of more than about 5 cm because then it will not fit.

Inside the machine there is a roll of adhesive and there is a handle that your child can operate manually which will turn it. There is even an arrow on this to ensure that they turn the right way. At the back of the machine there is a small slot for you to slide your design in. Turn the handle a couple of times and you should then see your design appearing through another slot at the front. The front has a line of plastic jagged teeth which makes it very easy to tear off. None of this is difficult and small children can manage the whole process on their own very well.

Once your design has appeared at the front you can peel it off the paper and magically it is completely sticky! You can then decide what you are going to stick it on - ususlly Mummy or Daddy at the moment! - and then you are already to start again! It is also repositionable so that means that it will pull off things that you don't want it on quite easily.

It's also good as there is not any sticky mess as the adhesive part of the roll is rolled up and kept inside the machine. It is quite hard to see how it works and just after we had it, I did think for one horrible moment that my daughter had broken it because I couldn't see the sticky stuff but luckily it was only me being silly!

The adhesive roll is apparently 4 metres long so that should make many many stickers. However, if it does run out it is always possible to buy refills.

I notice that you can buy this for £12.37 in Amazon but this seems quite pricy. I would definitely shop around and I bought ours in Hobbycraft on sale for £7,99 which is almost half the price.

Overall though, this is a great little machine for children who like making things 0 but be prepared to find stickers in all sorts of unexpected places!

Summary: You might find stickers everywhere!

The girl I look after has one of these, and somehow got all the reels inside stuck, the instructions didn't help as they didn't tell you what way the plastic went, she wasted a whole roll! Great idea for arty yet careful girls. Nicola x

My daughter has the purple one but it doesn't get used very much.

We had one of these but it was an absolute nightmare trying to refill it! We ended up throwing it away!
