Advantages: No mess creative fun!
Disadvantages: Wears out a little after first few uses.
Our eldest daughter was given the Rainbow Aquadraw as a gift for her 2nd birthday - she's now 3 and it's still going strong! It really is a fantastic toy - kids love the rainbow colours that magically appear and parents love the fact there's no mess!
The Aquadaw mat is basically made of two pieces of fabric joined together. The one on top is the part you can see - mostly white with patterns around the edge. The underneath part is coloured. When the white on the top part of the mat becomes wet, the colours from the fabric underneath show through. So children can get the same effect as painting/drawing but by only using water! Then to start again you just allow the mat to dry and the colours disapear again.
The mat is large and very attractive looking with lots of bright colours. It comes with two water pens, 3 stampers (star, cloud and rain) and a sponge brush with water pot. Children can get really creative and make lots of pictures, patterns and even write on the mat. My daughter particularly likes doing hand and foot prints! And parent's can confidently let children run riot with the mat and you know it's only water so they can't do much damage!! Our youngest has also just turned 1 and, although she's limited by what she can do at such a young age, she really loves Aquadraw too!
We've had the mat for just over a year and it's still great. I wouldn't say it's like new - it quickly seems to lose it's newness and the colours don't come through quite as brightly as they once did BUT once it gets to the initial slightly worn stage it doesn't seem to get any worse. And if that mat gets dirty at all I just pop it in the washing machine on a cool cycle and it comes out fine again.
If you end up being a huge fan of Aquadraw like we are, you might also like the Aquadraw mini mats which are great for in the car, taking to grandparents, etc.
Rainbow Aquadraw isn't exactly cheap at around £30 but it does last well and I think children will get more and more out of it as they get older.
Summary: Brilliant toy to let your kids get creaive without any mess!
