Advantages: No mess, fun to use

Disadvantages: None

We bought the rainbow Aquadraw when our sons were 1 and starting to enjoy drawing and painting. The Aquadraw series of toys, made by Tomy are a brilliant idea which allows children to draw using water alone, so for parents you can let their creative sides run free without worrying about cleaning up afterwards!

Tomy make a range of large Aquadraw mats, some feature popular characters such as the Teletubbies, In the Night Garden, Cinderella and Thomas the Tank Engine. We plumped for the rainbow Aquadraw however- no characters but it allows you to draw in rainbow colours. In the set you get a large Aquadraw mat, the area to be drawn on is white and it is edged by colourful illustrations of a rainbow, hot air balloon, butterflies etc. Once water is applied to the white mat, the rainbow colours underneath show through so you can draw colouful pictures. Along with the mat, the set contains two pens which can be filled with water, and three stamps to attach to the end of the pens allowing you to stamp star, cloud and raindrop shapes onto the mat. The set also includes a paintbrush and pot to be filled with water to dip it into. The pot is cleverly designed with a lip around the top so that if knocked over it won't spill its contents onto the carpet. Once you have finished your masterpiece you just leave the mat to dry and it is ready to use again.

We have had hours of fun with the Aquadraw set- two years on it is still in regular use. It is perfect for those days when you want to do something creative but can't face the mess of real paint, or the hassle of removing yet another crayon mark from the furniture. The set is currently on sale for around £25 and I would say it is very good value.

Summary: Great value, would definately recommend

Good review, but I still don't like the idea of these. Maybe its because I remember I used to love to pick my own colours to paint and really had fun mixing them to make different shades. This totally eliminates that type of creativity.

My boys are just three and still play with theirs at the moment- I would guess it will still be in use for the next year or so.

I want to get my little sister one for Christmas but do you reckon she'd be too big for it cos she'll be 2 1/2 by then?
