Wood Worx Jewellery Box
Advantages: Lots of fun, pretty, Sophie loved decorating it
Disadvantages: Younger children need help, not enough glue or paint
My daughter was bought this set by a lovely neighbour we have who has took a shine to both my girls. As I didn't buy the set I wasn't sure how much it would cost but looking it up on trusty Amazon I have found that this would costs about £5.
The set came packaged in a cardboard box which is a pretty sturdy box, on the front there is a young girl holding up her creation with a big smile on her face. On the front of the box it states ages 5-7 I may need some help, ages 8-12 I can do it so with my daughter being 5 I expected she would need a fair bit of help with it.
Inside the box you find a plastic pull out tray which has a large compartment in it for the wooden pieces, 2 small compartments for your glue and your glitter and then a larger long compartment which holds 5 small paint pots and a paint brush. Also within the box you find a small packet of sequins, some rhinestones and a sheet of stickers for decorating the jewellery box.
There is a set of instruction and they are really great, they have really big bold pictures of all the pieces of the jewellery box telling exactly what pieces you need at which step and exactly where you need to put the glue to put the box together. Sophie was able to help to glue the pieces together but she was a little heavy handed with the glue so I had to guide her hands whilst we did the gluing and then she became pretty impatient whilst we waited for it to dry for decorating. We ended up leaving the jewellery box overnight to make sure it was properly dry and I felt that if we thought it was dry when it wasn't then putting pressure on to paint it would cause it to come apart. We did find that the glue was really small and we ended up using some extra PVA glue of our own to get all the bits together.
The best part of the creation for Sophie was actually decorating the box as she loves anything like painting and drawing, Sophie painted all the pieces of the box and did use some of her own paints aswell as she wanted more than 5 colours which wasn't a problem, she enjoyed painting it so much that she also painted the whole of the insides of the drawers aswell but of course then it all had to be left to dry again before decorating with sticker, sequins and Rhinestones.
I think this was a great set and Sophie really enjoyed playing with it and the jewellery box is sat proudly on her drawers in her bedroom so now she wants jewellery to out in it. The set is only suitable for younger children such as my daughter if you are going to help them with it as it is hard for little hands to line all the pieces up correctly. The set is pretty easy for an adult to put together and the decorating is fun to do, the only drawback with the set is there is not enough glue or paint in it so be prepared to buy some extra if you don't have any at home.
