Advantages: Bought at 60% of High St price

Disadvantages: Time needed. Not suitable for an urgent "want"

There seems to be a variety of opinion from people, some of whom haven't actually bid for anything on this site. Here is one from someone who has, admittedly only once.

I was looking for a 32" widescreen TV, preferably a Sony or Panasonic. The auction was listing several at various stages of the bid process, supplied by Messrs. Rings of Bournemouth. I bid for one of them, having to hike my bid a couple of times - all the while I was kept informed by e-mail. In the end I was successful.

End result - a 32" Sony widescreen set with Dolby Pro Logic and an integrated digital decoder (for the free to air digital channels) for £741 including carriage (Dixons price in the region of £1300).

So what if it is a "corporate" auction?

Personally I feel better about that than buying from an individual stranger, who could still be paying for the damned thing on HP. Also, the payment facilities just have a more secure feel to them, perceived or otherwise, when dealing by credit card with a "real" company.

I didn't find the site too messy to deal with, and navigating to the TV's was easy enough. The bid update screen was OK, and their method of allowing you to state your "ceiling" without telling the seller, means that you can still get away with paying less, as long as you are not outbid.

All in all, a successful site, for me. At least they don't bombard you with e-mail like QXL. I have have had to set my Outlook Express to dump these!
