Advantages: Bargains
Disadvantages: Mit messy to look at
You know I’m a sucker for a bargain? Well as much as adore QXL auctions Fsauctions is topping it for bargains at the moment. Se7en on DVD Region 2 £7.50, Mission Impossinbe £10, 28" Widescreen telly? £380. ….. Now QXL is the main event as far as I’m concerned, looks better, easier navigation cleaner look and feel, but who cares about that when there’s bargains to be had? (Bit like a carboot really?) Fsauctions appears to look amateurish to me, and there are far too many symbols icons and ‘types’ of auction; Dutch, Fixed, AutoMarkdown, but having said that they also have QuickWin Auctions where the item is sold to the first bidder that meets the threshold price, adds a little bit of excitement. Most of QXL’s auction offer a good thumbnail image, a few sellers bother on FS but I suppose that’s not the most important thing, security and reliability are a tad more important, and the FAQ is fairly comprehensive and reassuring about the secure server. The ratings system is also useful, after all if you’ve been ripped off by someone then you are not going to hold back are you? However it seems that is about all you can do. Upon winning an auction you receive an email detailing the sellers prices/shipping and also their snail mail address – which surprised me, on other sites I’ve only had the email address passed on and the rest left up to the parties involved. So what’s on offer? Everything from Beanies to tickets to holidays. Worth browsing for a while (don’t forget to check prices with a comparison site should you be tempted!) Online auctions are good fun and obviously there is a risk involved, but you’ve got to be in it to win it!
